Overview

Texas Oncology is looking for a Pharmacy Technician to join our team at the North Austin location. This full‑time position (Monday–Friday, 8 am–5 pm) requires no weekend, holiday, or on‑call shifts.

The role will be classified as Level 1, Level 2, or Senior based on candidate experience.

What Does the Pharmacy Technician Do?

Under the direct supervision of a physician or registered pharmacist, the Pharmacy Technician prepares, distributes, records, and inventories medications in a clinic admixture room or licensed pharmacy. Tasks are subject to verification by a registered nurse or pharmacist. The role supports the US Oncology Compliance Program and follows all applicable state and federal regulations.

Responsibilities
  • Assist with the preparation of medication orders by compounding or admixing medications under supervision.
  • Check all orders for completeness and verify patient information and proper physician authorization.
  • Admix drugs as ordered by a physician in an accurate and timely manner, adhering to department, OSHA, and interoffice guidelines.
  • Calculate correct dosage volumes, converting between metric and apothecary equivalents.
  • Assist in controlled substance record keeping in accordance with practice guidelines, state, and federal regulations.
  • Dispose of materials used in mixing chemo or non‑chemo IVs in accordance with practice guidelines, state and federal law.
  • Clean hoods daily, check drugs monthly for out‑dates, and perform and document other quality assurance activities.
  • Maintain accurate temperature logs and logs for protocol and patient assistance drugs.
  • Manage inventory appropriately, including proper documentation of inventory quantities, lot numbers, and expiration dates when appropriate.
  • Provide support across the medication use continuum including label preparation, documentation, basic data entry, pre‑billing review, and ordering medications and supplies as directed.
  • Assist with required cleaning and maintenance of the admixture area and the pharmacy department in accordance with state rules and USP compliance.
Qualifications Level 1
  • High School diploma or equivalent.
  • Entry‑level experience in a pharmacy.
  • Certified Pharmacy Technician certificate recommended unless required by state law.
Level 2 (in addition to Level 1 requirements)
  • Minimum three to five years of experience in a pharmacy with IV skills.
  • IV certification preferred.
  • Certified Pharmacy Technician certificate or State Pharmacy Board requirement recommended.
Level Senior (in addition to Levels 1 and 2 requirements)
  • Minimum five to seven years of experience in a pharmacy with IV skills.
  • Oncology background preferred or extensive IV preparation experience.
  • Completion of an ASHP accredited program or community college‑based program recommended.
