PurposeThe Surgical Technologist is responsible for assisting surgeons and other healthcare professionals during surgical procedures by preparing the operating room, ensuring the availability and sterility of surgical instruments, and providing direct patient care. This position maintains a sterile environment, anticipates the needs of the surgical team, and ensures patient safety.
This is a 36hr/week position consisting of 4 8hr and 1 4hr shifts.
Prepares Operating Room
- Sets up surgical instruments and equipment.
- Ensures the operating room is sterile and ready for procedures.
- Verifies the functionality of surgical equipment.
Assists During Surgical Procedures
- Passes instruments and supplies to the surgeon during procedures.
- Anticipates the needs of the surgical team.
- Maintains a sterile field throughout the surgery.
Provides Direct Patient Care
- Assists with patient positioning and draping.
- Monitors patients' vital signs during surgery.
- Provides post-operative care as needed.
Maintains Sterility and Infection Control
- Follows strict infection control protocols.
- Sterilizes instruments and equipment after use.
- Ensures compliance with regulatory standards.
Documents and Reports
- Maintains accurate records of surgical procedures.
- Reports any issues or concerns to the Operating Room Supervisor.
- Ensures all documentation meets regulatory and organizational standards.
- High School Diploma/GED
- At least 1 year(s) of experience in surgical technology.
- Certified Surgical Technologist (CST).
- Completion of an accredited surgical technology program.
- 2 years of experience in an ambulatory surgery center or similar healthcare setting.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
$26.50/hr + depending on qualifications
Working Environment / Equipment- Standard office equipment
- Repetitive use of a keyboard
- May be exposed to such occupational hazards as communicable diseases, blood borne pathogens, ionizing and non-ionizing radiation, hazardous medications and disoriented or combative patients, or others.
