In collaboration with patients, families (as defined by the patient) and staff across all disciplines and departments, this role is responsible for assisting patients in obtaining prescribed medications through Pharmaceutical Patient Assistance Programs (PAP) and through insurance prior authorizations.
Essential Duties- Initiate, assist and coordinate with specialty providers on assistance with Prior Authorizations/Non-Formulary Drug Requests for Commercial, Medicaid, Medicare D, MAP and Sliding Fee Scale medication claims.
- Initiate, assist and coordinate with primary care provider teams on Prior Authorizations/Non-Formulary Drug Requests for MAP and Sliding Fee Scale medications.
- Submit manufacturer assistance program applications to providers for review, signature and forward completed applications and related paperwork to the appropriate patient assistance program.
- Explain the PAP procedures to patients and assist patients in completing program applications and obtaining required documentation.
- Document and maintain accurate records, confidential patient files, and maintain follow-up with patient applications and assistance programs.
- Receive, document and store medication(s) received from patient assistance programs and coordinate delivery to patients through internal pharmacy.
- Maintain attestations and competencies through Compliance 360 and serve as liaison between Patient Assistance Programs, patients, clinic staff, eligibility staff and outsourced pharmacies.
- Educate and train PAP Services technicians and cross‑train in internal Class A and Class D pharmacy operations.
- Ensure all actions, job performance, personal conduct and communications represent Comm Unity Care in a highly professional manner.
- Ensure compliance with regulatory and accreditation standards (Joint Commission and Comm Unity Care SOPs and policies).
- Develop and maintain favorable internal relationships with clinical managers, support staff, providers and business office staff.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Clinical knowledge to complete insurance prior authorization requests for specialty care provider needs.
- Clinical knowledge to complete pharmaceutical manufacturer‑specific forms to obtain medications or coverage for specialty care needs.
- Knowledge to complete prior authorization forms for MAP and SFS.
- Exceptional communication with patients, ensuring timely status updates.
- Respectful and collaborative interaction with patients and families.
- Collaboration with all members of the care team for patient‑centered care.
- Completion of mandatory training and maintenance of credentials/licensure.
High School Diploma or equivalent.
Minimum ExperienceFive years of related experience.
Required Certifications / Licensure- Current Pharmacy Technician Registration with the Texas State Board of Pharmacy.
- Current Health Care Provider Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) certification through American Heart Association or American Red Cross, which must be maintained during employment.
