Brief

Job Description:

The state supported living centers serve people with intellectual and developmental disabilities who are medically fragile or who have behavioral problems. The centers provide campus-based direct services and supports at 13 centers located throughout the state.

Essential Job Functions (EJFs):

  • Attends work on a regular basis and may be required to work a specific shift schedule or rotating schedule, extended shift and/or overtime in accordance with agency leave policy and performs other duties as assigned.
  • Plans, organizes, and conducts training classes in group class-type settings or computer lab environments to include New Hire Orientation, refresher training and continuing education classes to ensure trainees' competency.
  • Evaluates employee competencies and skills as outlined in policy and/or course requirements.
  • Acts as a substitute trainer for other FCTD team members in case of absences to ensure constant delivery of training classes when scheduled.
  • Promotes training quality and effectiveness; customizes HHS FCTD standardized training to increase trainee perception of relevance to the facility's environment and uses creativity to inject interactivity and interest.
  • Maintains accurate and complete training records and ensures proper attendance records are submitted to the appropriate team member or in applicable systems.
  • Assists with curriculum materials development, including multimedia presentations, and demonstrates awareness of safety and infection control practices.
  • Coordinates with facility managers to identify training needs and develops responses; conducts post-orientation assessments in the residential setting when needed.
  • Maintains necessary certifications to teach assigned classes (e.g., CPR instructor, trauma-informed care, Ukeru, SUR) and serves as Master Trainer or subject matter expert as assigned.
  • Attends facility meetings to provide training perspectives and reports training statistics; conducts needs assessments and program assessments for training improvement.
  • Performs other duties to ensure services are provided; participates in disaster response/COOP activation as required.

Knowledge,

Skills And Abilities

(KSAs):

  • Knowledge of working with persons with intellectual and developmental disabilities.
  • Knowledge of training procedures/techniques and adult education principles; ability to apply to curricula and learning objectives.
  • Ability to deliver effective instruction to large groups and individuals; establish and maintain relationships; excellent interpersonal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to learn, teach and demonstrate skills related to CPR, Ukeru, SUR, and lifting; ability to work in team and independently; sound judgment aligned with HHSC values.
  • Ability to operate Windows programs (Word, PowerPoint, Outlook) and basic office/audio-visual equipment.
  • Ability to support approximately 55 pounds to train safe lifting; ability to adapt to alternate scheduling.

Registrations, Licensure Requirements Or

Certifications:

  • Must possess valid Texas driver’s license or obtain it within 90 days; driving record requirements per HHSC Fleet policy.
  • CPR instructor certification within six months of hire and maintained thereafter.

Initial Screening Criteria:

  • High school diploma or equivalent required; college degree preferred.
  • At least one year of experience with persons with developmental disabilities or training adults in a classroom/on-the-job setting (preferred to have both).
