Position Summary
The Histology Lab Operator III is a member of the Histopathology Department responsible for assisting HT/HTLs in analyzing specimens and maintaining equipment in good condition.
Primary Responsibilities- Assist certified/licensed personnel in clinical patient testing in accordance with SOP.
- Perform histological preparations for the tissue whole exome sequencing laboratory with little to no errors.
- Prepare tissues, stained slides, macrodissection, and support workflow tasks.
- Set up equipment and assist with automated lab procedures, as applicable.
- Assist and complete daily tasks.
- Maintain equipment and instruments in good operating condition.
- Maintain sufficient inventory of material, supplies, and equipment.
- Document information accurately and in accordance with Good Documentation Practices (GDP).
- Provide guidance for new team members.
- Train on specialized instructions for instruments/protocols (super user).
- Identify and escalata st stuck cases and unresolved issues.
- Conduct independent continuous improvement projects.
- Serve as go‑to person when lead/supervisor is not available.
- Communicate with team and other departments (including via e‑mail).
- Understand the entire lab process and troubleshoot issues when they arise.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Minimum of 4+ years of related experience.
- Associate’s degree or higher in a histotechnician program, or an associate’s degree or higher in a chemical or biological science.
- One year of experience and/or training in histology within the past 5 years, or completion of a course of training of at least nine months in a histotechnician program.
- A copy of the degree is required at the time of hire; it must be from the US or equivalent to a US degree.
- Excellent interpersonal, communication, computer, and technical skills.
- Proficient oral and written communication.
- Word processing and data management capabilities.
- Ability to work well in a group setting.
- Adherence to the department's time and attendance guidelines.
- Duties performed in a BSL-2 laboratory with potentially hazardous material.
- Standing or sitting for long periods may be required.
- Work may require weekends and overtime.
- Must be able to lift boxes or supplies up to 35 lbs.
- Safety equipment required: goggles, gloves, laboratory coat.
- Exposure to cold air due to frequent access to refrigeration and/or freezer units.
- Repetitive hand motion may be necessary.
