Histology Lab Operator II

Position Summary

The Histology Lab Operator III is a member of the Histopathology Department responsible for assisting HT/HTLs in analyzing specimens and maintaining equipment in good condition.

• Assist certified/licensed personnel in clinical patient testing in accordance with SOP.
• Perform histological preparations for the tissue whole exome sequencing laboratory with little to no errors.
• Prepare tissues, stained slides, macrodissection, and support workflow tasks.
• Set up equipment and assist with automated lab procedures, as applicable.
• Assist and complete daily tasks.
• Maintain equipment and instruments in good operating condition.
• Maintain sufficient inventory of material, supplies, and equipment.
• Document information accurately and in accordance with Good Documentation Practices (GDP).
• Provide guidance for new team members.
• Train on specialized instructions for instruments/protocols (super user).
• Identify and escalata st stuck cases and unresolved issues.
• Conduct independent continuous improvement projects.
• Serve as go‑to person when lead/supervisor is not available.
• Communicate with team and other departments (including via e‑mail).
• Understand the entire lab process and troubleshoot issues when they arise.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

• Minimum of 4+ years of related experience.
• Associate’s degree or higher in a histotechnician program, or an associate’s degree or higher in a chemical or biological science.
• One year of experience and/or training in histology within the past 5 years, or completion of a course of training of at least nine months in a histotechnician program.
• A copy of the degree is required at the time of hire; it must be from the US or equivalent to a US degree.

• Excellent interpersonal, communication, computer, and technical skills.
• Proficient oral and written communication.
• Word processing and data management capabilities.
• Ability to work well in a group setting.
• Adherence to the department's time and attendance guidelines.

• Duties performed in a BSL-2 laboratory with potentially hazardous material.
• Standing or sitting for long periods may be required.
• Work may require weekends and overtime.
• Must be able to lift boxes or supplies up to 35 lbs.
• Safety equipment required: goggles, gloves, laboratory coat.
• Exposure to cold air due to frequent access to refrigeration and/or freezer units.
• Repetitive hand motion may be necessary.
