Purpose

Performs magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) procedures at a technical level requiring constant attention to technical detail. Performs a variety of technical procedures that will require independent judgment, with ingenuity and initiative. Recognizes the purpose of this service is to provide high quality magnetic resonance imaging and to prioritize the patient as number one. Works effectively with patients and patients’ families and maintains a cooperative relationship with interdepartmental personnel.

Carries out all duties while maintaining compliance and confidentiality and promoting the mission and philosophy of the organization.

Essential Functions
  • Performs high quality MRI procedures, according to exam protocol, in a timely manner. Maintains production and quality of imaging procedures by following established standards and procedures.
  • Performs a variety of technical procedures that will require independent judgment, with ingenuity and initiative.
  • Provides high quality magnetic resonance imaging and prioritizes the patient as number one.
  • Works effectively with patients and patients’ families and maintains a cooperative relationship with interdepartmental personnel.
  • Demonstrates a knowledge of the human structure and functions, patient care, positioning, principles of electromagnetic and computer sciences, magnetic protection and specialized techniques.
  • Prepares patient and area for procedure by positioning patient, adjusting immobilization devices, moving equipment into specified position and adjusting equipment controls to set exposure factors.
  • Obtains, verifies and maintains all relevant documentation such as chart, patient history, pregnancy status and shielding precautions taken, consent forms, policies and procedures, etc.
  • Adjust equipment as needed to produce high quality images.
  • Performs Quality Control of images once taken and evaluates images to make sure they meet the ordering provider’s requirements.
  • Maintains medical imaging records in appropriate system and according to department policies and standards for interpretation in a timely manner.
  • Protects patients and employees by adhering to safety requirements, protocols and techniques.
  • Completes quality scans in a timely manner, effectively organizes and prioritizes workflow to meet urgent demands.
  • Notifies supervisor of equipment repair needs.
  • Maintains compliance with Texas Medical Board and ARRT educational requirements.
  • Adheres to all company policies, including but not limited to, OSHA, HIPAA, compliance and Code of Conduct.
  • Keeps inventory of MRI supplies, stocks room supplies and makes orders for supply restocks as required.
  • Regular and dependable attendance.
  • Follows the core competencies set forth by the Company, which are available for review on ARC SharePoint.
  • Works holiday shift(s) as required by Company policy.
Other Duties and Responsibilities
  • Maintains work area.
  • Attends required meetings and in-services.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications

Education and Experience

Required:

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Associate Degree in Radiologic Sciences or Graduate of an AMA-approved school of Radiologic Technology.
  • Completion of courses and training in Magnetic Resonance Technology.
  • One or more years’ experience performing MRI procedures.
  • Skilled in starting IV’s and injection of contrast.

Preferred:
Three (3) or more years of related work experience.

Certificate/License

  • Registered with and must be in good standing with American Registry of Radiological Technologist.
  • Licensed by the Texas Medical Board as a Medical Radiologic Technologist - General License.
