The Radiologic Technologist is responsible for operating X‑ray and fluoroscopic equipment under the direction of the Medical Director/Physician.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS- Set up and operate radiographic equipment used in the medical diagnosis and/or treatment of patients
- Select proper ionizing factors for radiologic diagnosis
- Position the patient appropriately and configure the equipment to optimize the X‑ray quality for the specific body area requested by the physician
- Protect patients and personnel from radiation hazards by taking precautions to minimize exposure
- Adjust radiographic controls, including kilovoltage and milliamperage, to prescribed specifications for accurate exposure timing
- Regulate the length and intensity of film exposure
- Implement infection control procedures for the work area
- Check X‑ray for clarity of image, and retake X‑rays when needed
- Distribute films to appropriate medical staff and transfer images to electronic medical records (EMR)
- Maintain quantity and quality control checks to assure X‑ray unit meets standards required by laws, rules, and facility policy
- Perform radiographic procedures for patients in surgery
- Clean, maintain, and make minor adjustments to radiographic equipment, including determining repairs needed
- Maintain radiographic supplies, film, and equipment
- Assure that all materials and other required equipment are present and in working order
- Follow all safety rules, report all accidents promptly, and correct minor safety hazards
- Communicate with peers and management regarding any hazards identified in the workplace
- Protect patient and family privacy rights and maintain confidentiality of patient records in accordance with policy, procedure, and HIPAA requirements
- Adhere to the company standards of business conduct
- Perform other duties as assigned at the discretion of medical provider and facility
- Knowledge of the principles and practices of diagnostic radiographic procedures
- Knowledge of basic chemistry, film apparatus, and film processing techniques
- Knowledge of human anatomy, and how disease and injuries are diagnosed and imaged radiographically
- Knowledge of occupational hazards and safety precautions applicable to the work
- Knowledge of computers and relevant software applications
- Strong attention to detail and thoroughness in completing work tasks
- Ability to set up and operate radiographic and fluoroscopic equipment
- Ability to lift and position patients for X‑ray procedures
- Ability to clean, maintain, and make minor adjustments to equipment
- Ability to maintain composure, keep emotions in check, control anger, and avoid aggressive behavior in difficult situations
- Ability to maintain a calm and helpful attitude, even under stressful times, taking appropriate steps to resolve issues
- Ability to perform high‑quality radiology procedures according to exam protocol in a timely manner
- Ability to adapt, be open to change, and handle variety in the workplace
- Ability to work independently, guiding oneself with little or no supervision
- Ability to maintain effective, organized systems to ensure timely patient flow
- Ability to maintain accurate patient records
- Ability to respond quickly, physically and mentally, when priorities or the patient’s condition changes
- Must have reliable transportation for traveling if necessary
- Compliance with facility policies and procedures
- Compliance with continuing and mandatory education programs
- Graduate of an accredited school of Radiologic Technology or an Associate’s Degree in Radiology Studies
- Licensed by the Medical State Board of Texas as a Medical Radiologic Technologist (MRT)
- Certified by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT)
- One (1) year of radiology experience in a healthcare facility
