    The Center for Biomedical Research Support (CBRS) is a collection of 10 service centers that operates under the Vice President for Research, Scholarship and Creative Endeavors (OVPR) and broadly supports the research community on campus and externally. CBRS serves a central role across all of campus to provide access to cutting‑edge technology, expert advice, and centralized services. CBRS is comprised of core facilities including Biomedical Imaging, Bioinformatics, Biological Mass Spectrometry, Biomedical Research Computing, Cryo‑EM imaging, Genome Sequencing, Microscopy/Flow Cytometry and Mouse Genetic Engineering.

    In addition, CBRS provides laboratory support in the forms of stockrooms, electronics repair, and external services drop boxes.
Purpose

The University of Texas at Austin is seeking to hire a full‑time Imaging Support Scientist to join the Biomedical Imaging Center (BIC) and support the delivery of the Center’s imaging services to our user‑base. The BIC is a university core facility that incorporates multi‑modal biomedical imaging (MRI, PET, CT, optical imaging) and supports basic, translational and clinical research at UT‑Austin and the wider community.

Our user‑base is wide‑ranging and encompasses human and preclinical imaging across multiple fields including oncology, neurology, psychology, psychiatry, nutrition and biomedical engineering. The Imaging Support Scientist will support the delivery of imaging services to the BIC’s user‑base in accordance with our scientific and educational mission. This position will report to the Imaging Support Specialist(s) and assist with the delivery of BIC’s services to the imaging community, including tasks such as assisting with our instrumentation, training programs and the provision of technical support.

The ideal candidate will be familiar with biomedical imaging and have experience coordinating administrative and operational tasks preferably with a background in imaging research.

Responsibilities
  • Assist with the upkeep and management of the imaging systems and ancillary equipment of the BIC, manner under guidelines provided by senior staff. Tasks include running routine system QA/QC protocols; analyzing the data/output using standard pipelines; preparing the imaging systems and their supporting equipment for use and apprising Center users of BIC policies and procedures.
  • Act as the initial point of contact for Center user support by monitoring our online support request software, coordinating the response of BIC staff by prioritizing these requests and assigning them to the appropriate staff member. Provide user support for routine troubleshooting and maintenance requests.
  • Coordinate training for users and support staff, including maintaining training records; scheduling training sessions; and mentoring trainees by delivering safety training. Identify user training and safety needs and coordinate with senior staff to address these needs by updating training materials and classes.
  • Assist with the maintenance of BIC facilities by performing routine equipment checks and ordering and restocking supplies and consumables. Clean and oversee the upkeep of secure areas of the BIC facilities that cannot be maintained by custodial staff.
  • Provide additional support for BIC’s routine operations under supervision from senior staff. Tasks may include coordinating with the user‑base to establish requirements for communal equipment and supplies, documenting and archiving procedures for research imaging studies, and assisting with imaging research projects.
