The Brief Access and Referral Team provides a variety of clinical, assessment, and referral services to students at the University of Texas Counseling and Mental Health Center.
Responsibilities- Triage clients by conducting brief clinical assessments to determine level of care and disposition.
- Intervene with students in crisis, providing support, resources, and information.
- Conduct initial assessments of students’ presenting concerns.
- Maintain timely, accurate, and complete documentation of all service contacts as required by center policies and procedures.
- Develop and implement a blend of programmatic interventions addressing the psycho‑social mental health needs of students.
- Provide clinical consultation to others as needed and seek consultation when appropriate.
- Provide urgent care services as necessary to students.
- Collaborate with other mental health professionals, university departments, and community organizations.
- Develop linkages with key contacts to implement programmatic interventions that generate substantial student participation.
- Review client records to assess progress, effectiveness, and appropriateness of treatment services.
- Coordinate referrals between CMHC and university or community service providers.
- Assist the Program Director for Access and Referral Services in implementing the CMHC triage system and other clinical services.
- Attend departmental and division meetings and staff development programs as assigned.
- Contribute to prevention and outreach team meetings, offering new ideas and problem‑solving.
- Comply with all CMHC and UT policies, procedures, and guidelines.
- Provide training activities such as individual supervision, preceptorships, apprenticeships, co‑leading and supervising therapy groups, and leading trainee seminars.
- Supervise interns, practicum students, or psychiatric residents as requested.
- Co‑lead training seminars and supervise intern preceptorships.
- Participate on training‑related committees and during the orientation period.
- Sign clinical documentation and communicate with a supervisor as required.
- Licensed as a Clinical Social Worker or Professional Counselor in the State of Texas, or must obtain a Texas license within one year if licensed elsewhere.
- Master’s Degree in Counseling, Counseling Psychology, Clinical Psychology, Social Work, or an equivalent degree meeting Texas licensure eligibility.
- Two years of post‑master’s clinical experience in a college or university counseling center or another relevant setting.
- Experience providing case management, crisis intervention, brief assessment/triage, and care coordination to young adults and/or college students.
- Experience in high‑demand outpatient or inpatient health settings.
- Ability to work effectively with a multi‑disciplinary team of mental health providers.
- Experience providing culturally competent care to a diverse client population.
- Excellent verbal and communication skills.
- Two years of experience in case management, brief assessment/triage, and crisis intervention services.
