The MRI Technologist operates magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) equipment to produce diagnostic images of patients' internal structures. This role involves preparing patients for MRI procedures, positioning them correctly, operating the MRI equipment, and ensuring the quality of images. The MRI Tech typically reports to the Director of Radiology and works closely with radiologists, nurses, and other healthcare professionals.
Responsibilities- Patient Preparation and Positioning
- Explain MRI procedures to patients to reduce anxiety and obtain cooperation.
- Position MRI equipment at the correct angle and height over the appropriate area of the patient’s body.
- Ensure patient comfort and safety during imaging procedures.
- Imaging Procedures
- Operate MRI equipment to produce images of the body for diagnostic purposes.
- Follow physicians’ orders precisely and conform to regulations concerning the use of magnetic resonance.
- Administer contrast media and medications within the accepted scope of practice.
- Image Evaluation and Quality Control
- Review and evaluate developed MRI images to determine if they are satisfactory for diagnostic purposes.
- Perform quality control checks on MRI equipment to ensure it is safe and in working order.
- Maintain accurate patient records and documentation.
- Patient Care and Support
- Monitor patient’s conditions and reactions during and after imaging procedures.
- Address any patient concerns or adverse reactions promptly.
- Provide post-procedure instructions and support to patients.
- Administrative Duties
- Maintain MRI supplies inventory by checking stock, anticipating future needs, and placing orders.
- Ensure a clean and organized working environment in the imaging suite.
- Participate in team meetings and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives.
- Associate's degree in Radiologic Technology or a related field.
- 2 years of relevant experience in MRI or medical imaging.
- Certification as a Radiologic Technologist (ARRT) with a specialization in MRI.
Relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate.
Preferred Qualifications- Bachelor's degree in Radiologic Technology or a related field.
- 3 years of experience as an MRI Tech or in a similar role.
- Certification in CT imaging.
Salary Range: FLEXIBLE
