Overview
Nuclear Medicine Technologist – St. David’s North Austin Medical Center, part of St. David’s Health Care. This role involves producing images in accordance with ARRT and NMTCB standards, following Hospital Policies and Procedures and the Radioactive Materials License. The technologist reports to the Radiation Safety Officer to ensure regulatory compliance and provides services using radioisotopes to assist in diagnosis or treatment.
Professional judgment and ethical conduct are required in all duties.
- Provide patient-specific care standards as directed and follow service-excellence guidelines to ensure high patient satisfaction.
- Produce scans of optimal diagnostic quality for patients ranging from neonatal to geriatric.
- Follow established imaging protocols and isotope dosage guidelines; adjust for age or disease when appropriate.
- Operate Nuclear Medicine cameras, computers and related equipment efficiently and effectively.
- Complete quality scans in a timely manner and prioritize workflow accordingly.
- Demonstrate proficiency in scanning trauma, acute and challenging patients; modify positioning/scanning factors as needed.
- Understand disease processes, image findings, and communicate them to the Radiologist.
- Perform radioactive therapy procedures in accordance with Nuclear Medicine Policies and the Radioactive Material License.
- Minimize radiation exposure by adhering to the ALARA program and maintaining radiation safety practices.
- Explain procedures to patients and families clearly; address misconceptions.
- Maintain patient safety, privacy, confidentiality and dignity at all times.
Monday–Friday, 07:30–16:00.
Qualifications- Graduate of an education program in radiology accredited by JRCERT or an AMA-approved program in Radiologic or Nuclear Medicine Technology, or a military training program of equivalent standards.
- Associates degree or higher in Radiologic Technology (preferred).
- Two to three years of prior experience as a Radiologic Technologist (preferred).
- Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS) must be obtained within 30 days of employment start date.
- Hazardous Materials handling certification.
- CNMT or NMT certification, or ARRT-R Radiography certification.
