Overview

Registered Respiratory Therapist PRN role at Heart Hospital of Austin (part of HCA Healthcare
).

• The Respiratory Therapist coordinates and delivers high-quality, patient-centered respiratory care in accordance with department needs and applicable standards of practice. Performs diagnostic tests and therapeutic procedures and monitors patients receiving invasive and noninvasive mechanical ventilation.
• Performs and documents patient assessments, including breath sounds, airway patency, and cuff pressure. Conducts diagnostic procedures to evaluate the need for, and response to, respiratory therapy.
• Administers respiratory care therapies, including oxygen delivery, aerosol medication delivery, and chest physiotherapy.
• Assists with placement of artificial airways. Initiates, monitors, and maintains mechanical ventilation.
• Monitors therapeutic response and notifies the provider, intervening as appropriate in the event of an unintended response.
• Assists with transportation of ventilator-dependent patients.
• Responds to emergent patient situations and ensures airway integrity and adequate ventilation during resuscitation as required.

• Advanced Cardiac Life Support must be obtained within 90 days of employment start date
• Basic Cardiac Life Support must be obtained within 30 days of employment start date
• (NBRC-RRT) Registered Respiratory Therapist
• (RRT/RCP-State) Respiratory Therapist/Practitioner
• Associate Degree
