This position is located statewide, in the Program Management for Blind Services department.
TWC is not considering applications from individuals who require sponsorship for an employment visa, including those currently on student or postgraduate visas. You must be a Texas resident to work for the Texas Workforce Commission or be willing to relocate to Texas.
What You Will DoThe Program Specialist VI is selected by and reports to the Program Management Specialist and performs highly advanced (senior level) consultative services and technical assistance relating to the programs administered by the VRS Office of Blind Services. Works under minimal supervision, with considerable latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment.
You Will Be Trusted To- Serve as the subject matter expert and lead specialist on staff training needs related to blindness/visual impairments.
- Provide consultative and technical assistance to program staff and management.
- Assist with policy matters with VR/OIB and blindness/visual impairments.
- Coordinate information gathering and completion of reports and requests for information.
- Represent Office of Blind Services at meetings and work groups and make recommendations on action items.
- Work is performed under minimal direction with extensive latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Three years of full‑time experience in the development, implementation, or interpretation of policies and procedures in a public or private agency.
- Relevant academic credits may be applied toward experience qualifications for this position.
- Experience in developing training curriculum in the fields of blindness and rehabilitation.
- Experience in conducting and coordinating training activities for staff.
- Experience in the fields of blindness and rehabilitation.
- Skill in analyzing program data and effectively communicating results.
- Skill in writing, editing and delivering high quality reports.
- Knowledge of VR/OIB policy manuals and state/federal regulations.
