Job Duties
  • Conducts or assists in conducting employee safety training.
  • Prepares safety information for publication to promote employee safety.
  • Maintains or assists in maintaining a library of technical materials related to safety.
  • Inspects work areas and activities to identify hazards and recommends appropriate corrective action.
  • Maintains a log of accidents and injuries and prepares accident reports.
  • Reviews established safety regulations and standards and recommends appropriate modifications.
  • Reviews safety specifications for items to be purchased.
  • Recommends protective equipment, provides training on the appropriate use of that equipment, and conducts utilization spot checks.
  • Assists or conducts monthly agency-wide safety training for office and field-related risk exposures.
  • Performs agency-wide training and compliance with the internal driving program.
  • Participates in accident investigation reviews and recommends corrective actions.
  • Reviews safety procedures, rules, and standards.
  • Conducts agency-wide ergonomic assessments upon request.
  • Assists in developing risk‑management related policy and procedure manuals.
  • Assists in managing the agency’s employee notification system and sending urgent agency‑wide alerts.
  • Performs related work as assigned.
  • Coordinates responses to requests for emergency assistance and resources.
  • May develop, coordinate, or participate in local, state, and federal emergency exercises.
  • Supports the agency’s Continuity Coordinator to maintain and update the agency’s Continuity of Operations Plan.
  • Conducts office and field surveys, audits, and inspections for all agency locations to ensure a safe environment and compliance with local, state, and federal safety rules and standards.
  • Conducts, coordinates, or participates in safety committees, councils, and seminars.
  • Supports the agency’s Insurance Manager and may oversee multiple lines of insurance.
  • Supports the agency’s Workers' Compensation Coordinator.
  • Monitors claims with the State Office of Risk Management (SORM).
  • Serves as a liaison between regulatory local, state, and federal agencies.
  • Partners with other state agencies to coordinate safety and security efforts.
  • Oversees the publication of weekly and monthly information related to safety and health programs.
  • Creates, tracks, and audits safety training through the Centralized Accounting and Payroll/Personnel System (CAPPS).
  • May deploy to the State Operations Center during state emergencies.
  • Must be able to lift 25 pounds and climb a ladder.
  • Performs related work as assigned.
  • Position requires some in‑state travel (10–25%) with occasional overnight stays.
