Serves as DSHS liaison to the chronic disease advisory committees/councils within the Chronic Disease Unit in the Health Promotion and Chronic Disease Prevention Section:
Texas Diabetes Council (TDC), the Texas Council on Cardiovascular Disease and Stroke (TCCVDS), the Texas Council on Alzheimer’s Disease and Related Disorders (TCADRD), and the Texas Nutrition Advisory Committee (TNAC). The Council Liaison consults with Advisory Committee/Council chairs and the HHS Advisory Committee Coordination Office (ACCO) to plan Advisory Committee/Council and affiliated workgroup meetings, oversee all activities undertaken by the Advisory Committee/Council and related work groups, and trains Advisory Committee/Council members and staff.
Analyzes legislation related to a variety of topics including chronic disease, advisory committees, and open meetings and develops and maintains Texas Administrative Code rules assigned to the Unit. Assists Chronic Disease Unit Director with various Unit level projects. Consults with partners and stakeholders as needed. Works under limited supervision of the Chronic Disease Director with considerable latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment.
Job Functions (EJFs)
- Attends work on a regular and predictable schedule in accordance with agency leave policy and performs other duties as assigned.
- 40% Serves as primary agency liaison to advisory committees and councils:
Texas Diabetes Council (TDC), Texas Council on Cardiovascular Disease and Stroke (TCCVDS), Texas Council on Alzheimer’s Disease and Related Disorders (TCADRD), and Texas Nutrition Advisory Committee (TNAC). Trains new advisory committee/council members and new staff on advisory committee/council operations and Texas Open Meetings Act. Plans meeting agendas and logistics, reviews all advisory committee/council activities and meeting materials to ensure they are within statutory scope and follows up after meetings as needed.
Plans and facilitates standing and ad hoc advisory committee/council-affiliated work group meetings. Works with HHS Advisory Committee Coordinating Office (ACCO) to plan and facilitate meetings for all advisory committees/councils. - 35% Oversees and facilitates completion of all activities undertaken by any of the advisory committees/councils or their affiliated work groups. Interprets and applies statute, bylaws, and rules to advisory committee/council meetings and activities. Collects, organizes, and prepares materials required for reports including but not limited to the Texas Diabetes Council State Plan, the Cardiovascular Disease State Plan, and the TCADRD Biennial Report, and facilitates review of TNAC’s annual report.
