Overview
Join the Texas Attorney General’s Office of the Attorney General (OAG) as an Investigator in the Bankruptcy & Collections Division. The role focuses on collecting defaulted student loans on behalf of the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board and protecting the state’s monetary interests.
Essential Position FunctionsInvestigator II investigates student loan defaults, conducts skip‑tracing and asset research, negotiates repayment agreements, prepares investigative reports, performs account audits, and ensures confidentiality of sensitive information.
Investigator III performs all Investigator II functions plus assists in preparing cases for lawsuits or hearings, acts as a resource assistant for attorneys, and prepares documents for garnishments and receiverships.
QualificationsMinimum Qualifications
- Education:
Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university. - Experience:
Knowledge of accounting, auditing, banking, collections, compliance monitoring, or investigations. - Skills:
Effective oral and written communication, data research, multiple task management, computer proficiency, sound judgment, customer service, constructive feedback, and cooperative teamwork. - Physical:
Ability to lift and relocate 30 lbs, travel up to 5%. - Work Schedule:
40‑hour weekly schedule, ability to work more than 40 hours as needed, in‑person work at the assigned OAG location.
Preferred Qualifications
- Four years of progressive experience in collections, skip‑tracing, or account analysis.
- Knowledge of student loan collections.
