Overview
Our client, a fast‑growing insurance organization, is seeking an accomplished Vice President of Financial Reporting to lead enterprise‑wide reporting functions across statutory, regulatory, and GAAP frameworks. This leader will play a critical role in ensuring accuracy, compliance, and transparency in all financial reporting while driving enhancements in reporting processes, controls, and systems.
The ideal candidate is a seasoned insurance reporting expert with deep knowledge of STAT reporting requirements and hands‑on experience preparing and reviewing XBRL filings. This role requires a confident communicator who can partner with executive leadership, regulators, auditors, and cross‑functional teams.
Key Responsibilities- Regulatory & Statutory Reporting
- Lead and oversee all STAT reporting requirements, including quarterly and annual statements.
- Ensure accurate preparation of state and NAIC filings and respond to regulatory inquiries.
- Maintain current knowledge of NAIC updates, capital requirements, and regulatory changes.
- XBRL Management
- Lead the preparation and review of XBRL‑tagged financial statements.
- Manage validation, taxonomy updates, tagging accuracy, and overall XBRL reporting quality.
- Partner with technology teams and reporting vendors to optimize XBRL processes.
- Direct all aspects of consolidated financial reporting and disclosures.
- Ensure timely and accurate GAAP reporting, including footnotes and management commentary.
- Strengthen internal controls around financial reporting, including SOX compliance where applicable.
- Leadership & Strategic Partnership
- Lead and mentor the financial reporting team while building a high‑performing reporting organization.
- Collaborate closely with FP&A, Actuarial, Treasury, and Operations leadership.
- Provide reporting insights, trends, and recommendations to the CFO and executive team.
- Process Improvement & Systems
- Drive modernization in reporting tools, automation, and workflow efficiency.
- Partner with IT and implementation teams to enhance reporting systems and analytics capabilities.
- Establish best‑practice reporting frameworks, calendars, and governance.
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field; CPA strongly preferred.
- 10+ years of progressive financial reporting experience within the life insurance industry.
- Deep knowledge of STAT reporting, including NAIC requirements and state regulatory filings.
- Hands‑on experience with XBRL preparation, tagging, validation, and taxonomy management.
- Strong understanding of GAAP, statutory accounting principles, RBC, and regulatory capital.
- Experience leading reporting teams and managing executive‑level communication.
- Excellent analytical, organizational, and communication skills.
- Proven track record implementing process improvements and reporting automation.
- High‑impact executive role with direct visibility to the CFO and Board.
