Overview
What To Expect:
As Tesla increases its footprint with newer products, the need to automate sales and use tax in our systems becomes more necessary. The Indirect Tax Technology group seeks a Senior Business Analyst who is seasoned in cross‑functional business processes and strong in IT methodologies. This position will primarily support the Indirect Tax system and its integration with Order to Cash and Procure to Pay systems.
The role involves collaboration with the U.S. Indirect Tax Advisory, Compliance and Audits teams, Global Indirect Tax partners, Controllership and Finance, and IT teams.
- Assist with implementation, maintenance and documentation of indirect tax automation and reporting processes
- Communicate tax requirements to the IT team and ensure new Tesla products and indirect tax rules are configured and activated in Vertex in a timely, scalable and efficient manner
- Analyze the need for a new application or enhancements to an existing application to suit business needs and decide if changes are needed
- Recommend solutions that adhere to industry standards, considering impact on upstream and downstream systems and stakeholders
- Develop and execute test plans (such as User Acceptance Testing - UAT) to ensure implemented solutions meet indirect tax requirements and are fully functional
- Work cross-functionally across business teams—including Indirect Tax, Supply Chain, Logistics, Finance, Sales & Service—to identify and document detailed business needs, requirements, and user stories
- Maintain SOX compliance, internal controls and procedures related to tax systems
- Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Finance, Information Technology, or equivalent experience
- 4-6 years of prior experience as Systems Analyst or Indirect Tax Technology Analyst
- Proficiency in implementing/supporting tax technology products such as One Source, Vertex, Corp Tax and other similar tax software
- Experience implementing tax technology solutions, optimizing tax processes, and utilizing RPA (Robotic Process Automation)
- Strong SQL skills and experience with Business Process Modeling tools such as MS Visio, MS Excel, MS Access
- Project management skills and ability to deliver key artifacts such as Project Plans, Business Requirement Documents, Use Cases, System Sequence Diagrams
- Working knowledge of data management software like Alteryx; using Power
BI or other ETL tools is a plus
