About The DivisionFiscal Management facilitates the flow of financial resources to achieve the goals of the state in support of the Comptroller’s role as the state’s chief accountant.
Work HoursMonday through Friday, 40 hours a week with occasional evening, weekend hours and holidays. Hours may change based on business needs and may vary in accordance with division policies for Work Alternative Schedules (WALT).
QualificationsMinimum Qualifications
Education: Graduation from an accredited college or university with a bachelor’s degree.
Experience:
Accountant IV:
- Three years of experience performing general financial and/or accounting functions, financial reporting, budgeting, or financial statement audit duties.
- Experience working with accounts, reconciliations, and revenues.
Accountant V:
- Five years of experience performing general financial and/or accounting functions, financial reporting, budgeting, or financial statement audit duties.
- Experience working with accounts, reconciliations, and revenues.
Accountant VI:
- Six years of experience performing general financial and/or accounting functions, financial reporting, budgeting, or financial statement audit duties.
- Experience working with accounts, reconciliations, and revenues.
Preferred Qualifications
Preferred Education: Graduation from an accredited college or university with an Accounting or a Business related degree.
Preferred Experience:
- Experience with Texas governmental agency(s).
- Experience with the Texas legislative process.
- Experience and knowledge of USAS.
- Experience preparing fiscal notes and analyzing legislation.
- Experience researching and analyzing state statutes and/or the GAA.
- Experience with Comptroller Fiscal policies and procedures.
- SQL (Structure Query Language) or database experience.
Substitutions: One additional year of experience performing general financial and/or accounting functions, financial reporting, budgeting, or financial statement audit duties may substitute for thirty semester hours of educational requirement with a maximum substitution of 120 semester hours (four years).

Accountant IV:
- Monitors and reconciles 902 – Comptroller Fiscal (902) accounts across various systems for revenue collected by 902. Monitors fund cash accounts for compliance with legislative requirements.
- Monitors and maintains 902 profiles in Uniform Statewide Accounting System (USAS) and other Comptroller financial systems. Prepares budgetary entries and other duties associated with 902. Assists other Comptroller divisions with processing of accounting transactions in USAS as they relate to the section.
