About The Division

The Account Maintenance Division primarily is responsible for establishing and maintaining accurate taxpayer account information. As part of these responsibilities, the division processes applications, establishes accounts; issues permits, licenses, decals and cigarette stamps; and resolves taxpayer report processing issues.

General description

The Comptroller’s office is seeking Accounts Examiner III positions in the Account Maintenance Division. This role performs journey level accounts examination work.

In the Fuels & IFTA Tax Section:
Research taxpayer accounts, analyzing for proper disposition and completing processing requirements. Responds to inquiries both verbally and in writing. Maintains current working knowledge of tax statutes, rules and regulations related to Motor Fuels and IFTA tax.

In the Tobacco Tax, Amusement & Agriculture/Timber Exemptions Section:
Researches, analyzes, validates and processes applications for taxes and fees, electronic transmissions, tax reports and payment information received from taxpayers. Responds to telephone calls and inquiries and makes outgoing calls to taxpayers.

Work Hours

Agency standard work hours are Monday through Friday from 8am to 5pm, 40 hours per week with occasional evening and weekend hours. Hours are subject to change based upon business need or division determination.

This position may be eligible for a flexible/hybrid work schedule if certain conditions are met; working arrangements may change at any time as business necessitates.

Minimum Qualifications

· Graduation from an accredited college or university with an associate’s degree.

Preferred Qualifications

· Graduation from an accredited college or university with a bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance or business-related fields.

· Experience in accounting, finance or business dealing with analytical/problem-solving issues.

· Experience with tax processing systems including ITS, TPR and AWM.

· Experience with Secretary of State.

· Experience with OnBase.

Substitutions

One (1) additional year of work experience in an accounting, finance or business dealing with analytical/problem solving issues may substitute for 30 semester hours of educational requirement with a maximum of 120 semester hours (four years).

In this role you will

Fuels & IFTA Tax Section

Processes applications, reports, refunds, bonds and license renewals for the International Fuel Tax Agreement (IFTA), diesel tax, gasoline tax and dyed diesel exemptions.
