Assists in transportation work with engineering plans, equipment specifications, mapping, training module review, data entry and review, and hands-on traffic management equipment evaluations, and other entry-level engineering support work. Employees at this level perform assignments following specific instructions and are subject to frequent review by the immediate supervisor.
Must be enrolled in an engineering or related science degree program in an accredited college or university accepted by Texas Board of Professional Engineers and Land Surveyors (TX PELS).
Essential Duties- Assists in maintaining inventory of materials, supplies, and equipment.
- Assists with general warehousing duties such as stocking and issuing materials and supplies, maintaining records, and maintaining warehouse areas.
- Learn about signal timing and observe the impact of the Signals Connectivity project.
- Performs data entry and computer-aided analysis.
- Prepares and reviews base sheets, details, specifications, manuals, and other documents.
- Develops spreadsheets, databases, and other electronic documents.
- Assists with reviewing ITS projects to determine special provision requirements.
- Assists with reviewing sole source procurement project applications.
- Assists with reviewing railroad preemption forms that contain traffic signal retiming information.
- Assists with reviewing and/or creating specifications.
- Use Lonestar to control cameras and Dynamic Message Signs.
- Learn how to upload images to the color Dynamic Message Signs.
- Performs other job responsibilities as assigned.
- Must be enrolled in an engineering or related science degree program in an accredited college or university accepted by TX PELS.
- Must be at least 16 years of age, a student currently enrolled in high school or any institution of higher education to include a trade/vocational school.
- Employees at least 18 years of age with valid driver's license may be assigned driving duties and may use power tools.
- Some skill in using computers and applicable programs, applications, and systems.
- Ability to:

- Protect sensitive and confidential information
- Subject to outside environmental conditions; no effective weather protection.
- Lift up to 20 lbs at a time and frequently lift or carry objects up to 10 lbs.
- Balancing-walking, standing, crouching on various surfaces without falling.
- Kneeling-bending legs at knee to come to a rest on knee(s), stooping and bending downward
- Walking-moving on foot to accomplish tasks
- Reaching-extending hand(s) and arm(s) in any direction.
- Standing-prolonged periods of time.
- Repetitive Motion – substantial movements of the wrists, hands, and/or fingers
- Close Visual Acuity-work includes data/figures; view a computer screen; extensive reading
- Talking and Hearing – expressing or exchanging ideas by spoken words

- Must pass a drug test prior to employment for safety impact positions. This is a Safety Impact position and will be subject to random drug testing.
