The Role

We are seeking a senior engineering manager to lead our Enterprise and Mega Datacenter Team within the Center of Excellence group, as part of Field Application Engineering. The role broadly involves managing a team that:

  • works with customers and partners in support of RFP-driven requests, providing hands‑on support to enable their workloads to run on AMD ’Instinct’ GPUs, and delivering workshops and training;
  • conducts engineering investigations to understand performance and characteristic performance across popular and customer‑specific workloads, and evaluate competitive positioning;
  • creates a body of technical documentation of AI performance on AMD hardware to support the Field Application team, partners, and customers.

You will steer a team of senior FAE specialists working on leading names in Silicon Valley and Enterprise. Successful candidates will have already managed a number of direct reports in an engineering team, reporting to a Senior Director level, ensuring strong account qualification, capturing risks and blockers, and leveraging internal AMD networks. The role is based in North America and requires some travel to customers and conferences both nationally and internationally.

The Person
  • Established track record as a technical manager;
  • Understands performance impact for customers at systems, middleware and software levels;
  • Strong capability to manage customers and overcome challenges;
  • Positive can‑do attitude, proactive and anticipatory of future requests on the team;
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with crisp reporting upwards;
  • Ability to travel domestically and internationally, approximately 10-20% per year.
Key Responsibilities
  • Support winning new business by influencing customer qualification and Proof of Concept definition through the team; support AMD partners in pursuit of win;
  • Work closely with business owners up to VP level on the team’s accounts, building a strong engineering network within AMD to resolve issues;
  • Own the accounts, monitor progress, understand strengths, weaknesses, and key issues, and provide weekly readouts to the business;
  • Ensure the team performs Proof of Concepts and demonstrates viability to customer and AMD engineering, documenting work through whitepapers, blogs, and meeting sales and POC targets;
  • Engage proactively across AMD teams—GPU/CPU/Network Business Units, Engineering, Architecture, Platform, Software, and Product Development—to capture feedback and lead field requirements;
  • Assist in creating Total Cost of Ownership models to aid pricing with bid desk;
  • Run to the problem and proactively assist colleagues and other teams.
Preferred Experience
  • Managed a technical team of engineers;
  • Strong technical program management, managing accounts and reporting upwards to the management chain;
  • Pre‑sales experience, solution architecture;
  • Hands‑on technical engineering background;
  • Experience with Cloud Service Providers (Azure, AWS, Oracle Clouds, etc.);
  • Experience with system and application performance characterization, AI on CPU/GPU, databases, Spark, network performance, Kubernetes, virtualized environments, and profiling tools (AMD uProf, Intel VTune, etc.);
  • Understanding of system‑level hardware design and its impact on performance;
  • Customer‑facing experience with strong presentation skills.
Nice to Have
  • Demonstrated experience leading a team that shows an expanding funnel of wins;
