- Mentor and manage a team of professional engineers and technicians, guiding hiring, performance expectations, and professional development.
- Provide engineering support for UEM operational teams, including feasibility studies, budgeting, scope preparation, outsourcing, and technical design tasks.
- Direct the Utility Information Systems program, modernizing data and visualization tools for campus and research facilities.
- Manage environmental compliance programs, overseeing permitting, reporting, inspections, audits, corrective actions, and coordination with UT EH&S.
- Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to align engineering objectives, secure resources, and ensure adherence to UEM design standards and technical specifications.
- Oversee engineering and service contracts, renewing and amending agreements as necessary.
- Maintain safety, regulatory, and core value compliance across all UEM activities.
- Support additional duties as assigned and travel to all UT Austin campuses and facilities, including operating UT vehicles.
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Civil Engineering, or an ABET‑accredited engineering field.
- Licensed Professional Engineer in Texas, or ability to obtain reciprocity within six months.
- Minimum of three years in supervisory, team‑lead, or management roles.
- At least five years managing design and construction projects for industrial or energy plant facilities.
- Minimum of five years on higher education or hospital campus district energy projects.
- Demonstrated management of multiple assignments in a complex university environment.
- Project management and budgeting experience.
- Knowledge of design and construction contract documents.
- Strong written and oral communication skills, including non‑technical presentations.
- Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office and project software.
- Ability to work independently and in a team, solve problems, and adapt to change.
- Valid driver’s license with acceptable driving record.
- Master’s Degree in Engineering or Business Management.
- Ten or more years managing large and small institutional design and construction projects focused on higher education or hospital campuses.
- Ten or more years in industrial, steam, chilled water, or utility systems.
- Five or more years supervising three or more employees.
- Knowledge of environmental regulations in the energy and utilities sector.
- Experience developing or reviewing construction standards or codes.
- Proficiency in data visualization tools such as Tableau or Power BI.
- Skills in AutoCAD and Revit applications.
Class “C” driver’s license required. Applicants must provide a current three‑year driving record and obtain a Texas driver’s license within 30 days if not a resident.
Salary Range$130,000
Working Conditions- Uniforms and personal protection equipment (furnished)
- Work may involve all weather conditions, extreme temperatures, chemical fumes, biohazards, and electrical/mechanical hazards.
- Use of keyboard and computer, fine manual dexterity, occasional work from ladders or scaffolds, lifting up to 50 lbs, twisting, grasping, pushing, pulling, and bending.
- Exposure to loud noise, dust, allergens, climbing stairs, lifting, and moving within plant/shop areas.
- Usual office environment with occasional extended hours.
- Must operate job‑related equipment and software.
40.00 hours/week, standard schedule 8:00 AM–5:00 PM campus. Limited weekend and after‑hours work may be required.
