GENERAL DESCRIPTIONPerforms advanced (senior-level) inspection, diagnostic, repair, and maintenance work on fixed-wing or rotary aircraft to ensure operational readiness for public safety missions. Work involves setting standards of performance and devising work practices and procedures in accordance with established policies. The role of an aircraft mechanic is to ensure that aircraft are maintained and supports the Texas Department of Public Safety Aircraft fleet, which includes Airbus AS350 (H125), EC145, Bell 407
GXI, and Bell 412EP helicopters;
Cessna 206 and 208 airplanes;
Pilatus PC-12;
King Air 350. Works under limited supervision, with considerable latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment.
Education – Graduation from standard high school with a High School Diploma/equivalent.
Experience – Must hold a currently effective FAA Airframe and Powerplant (A&P) Mechanic Certificate and demonstrate a minimum of 5 years of experience exercising the privileges of that certificate. Must meet 14 CRF 65.83 recency of experience.
Licensure and/or Certification – Must possess a valid driver license from state of residence. FAA Airframe and Power Plant certification is required.
Regulatory knowledge – Working knowledge of, or the ability to rapidly assimilate information related to TXDPS, State and Federal regulations, legislation, guidelines, policies and procedures.
Aeronautical Knowledge – Ability to read, interpret, and apply technical data, schematics, and service publications. Proven knowledge, experience, and capability to conduct at least one of the following aircraft-specific inspections or maintenance tasks with minimum support or supervision:
- 100-hour inspection on an Airbus H125 helicopter.
- 100-hour inspection on a Cessna 206.
- 200-hour inspection on a Cessna 208.
- 300-hour inspection on a Pilatus PC-12.
- Scheduled and unscheduled maintenance on a King Air 350.
Technology – Proficiency with Microsoft Office and appropriate levels of proficiency with utilized software and systems (e.g. CAPPS, SharePoint) and be able to learn new software/systems. Must be…
