The Entry-Level Drafter performs drafting and basic engineering support activities under close supervision. This position develops foundational competencies through structured work assignments and receives instruction, guidance, and direction from supervisors, managers, and experienced colleagues.
The role may focus on drafting, engineering support, or a combination of both.
Primary Responsibilities- Perform field observations as assigned.
- Prepare and update asbuilt drawings based on field edits.
- Read and interpret engineering drawings, construction drawings, and other technical documentation.
- Use computer-aided design (CAD) software to prepare detailed engineering drawings, maps, and graphs from provided materials, including previous drawings, sketches, layouts, and standard references.
- Clearly document revisions and file drawings according to standard procedures.
- Assist in drafting solicitation documents using established procedures, formats, and templates to support procurement and contract activities.
- Support field and office research related to:
- Field measurements
- Historical engineering drawings
- Equipment databases
- Microfilm
- Inventory records
- Electronic document management system (EDMS) records
- Other technical documentation
- Contribute to the design of equipment and layouts and support development of equipment ratings and facility statistics.
- Prepare basic specifications, materials lists, and fixed capital unit (FCU) lists.
- Assist with creating work orders and requisition entries.
- Perform data entry in the departmental engineering database.
- Prepare basic reports related to projects, work plans, equipment, assets, and budgets; assist with more complex reporting as needed.
- Operate office and drafting equipment such as plotters, printers, copiers, and scanners.
- Collect engineering information by traveling independently to various company locations (such as substations, facilities, or plants).

Minimum Qualifications- One or more years of experience interpreting technical drawings/documents and performing technical analysis or CAD drafting.
- A degree in computer-aided design or a related field may substitute for equivalent experience, per company guidelines.
- A valid driver's license is required for travel to various company locations.
- Knowledge of general engineering principles.
- Knowledge of CAD principles, standards, and techniques.
- Knowledge of electronic document management systems (EDMS).
- Knowledge of work management systems.
- Basic proficiency in CAD software.
- Ability to read and interpret diagrams, prints, and technical information.
- Basic proficiency in office productivity software (email, word processing, spreadsheets).
- Skill in analyzing and solving technical problems.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to operate plotters, printers, copiers, and scanners.
- Ability to perform accurate data entry.
- Ability to work effectively in a team environment.
- Work may be performed in an office, industrial setting, electrical substation, or plant environment.
- Exposure to noise may occur.
- Outdoor work may involve exposure to various or extreme weather conditions.
- Frequent finger/hand manipulation when using a keyboard and mouse.
- Occasional climbing, crawling, crouching, or other non sitting positions for field duties (less than 20% of the time).
- Occasional standing or walking during field work (less than 20% of the time).
