CAD Drafter – Contract (On‐Site in North Austin)

Location: North Austin, TX

Schedule: On‐site, 5 days/week

Contract: 3‐month contract with potential extension based on performance

Rate: $30-45/hour

About the Role

We’re seeking a highly skilled Electromechanical Designer to support R&D, testing, and prototype development efforts. This role is ideal for someone who excels in hands‑on technical work, thrives in a collaborative engineering environment, and can operate with limited documentation and minimal supervision.

Key Responsibilities
  • Design and manufacture basic jigs/fixtures for testing (CAD/Design work)
  • Operate manual mills/lathes, CNC machinery, and 3D printers
  • Create harness schematics and assemble wiring harnesses
  • Perform PCBA soldering and component modifications
  • Assemble electromechanical subsystems without full documentation
  • Collaborate closely with R&D and Test/Validation Engineers to troubleshoot and solve complex issues
  • Assist with test design and implementation
  • Document issues and/or assembly processes for use by production technicians
Required Skills & Experience
  • Experience reading and interpreting technical drawings, schematics, and specifications
  • Excellent problem‑solving skills
  • Proficiency with hand tools, torque devices, and shop equipment
  • Ability to work independently with strong initiative and self‑motivation
  • Team‑oriented communication and collaboration
  • Basic computer skills
  • Strong written communication abilities
  • Commitment to workplace safety and adherence to safety standards
  • Flexibility to work evenings or weekends as needed
Preferred (Nice‑to‑Have)
  • Electrical and/or Mechanical Technician certifications
  • Prior experience in R&D, prototyping, or test environments
