LiDAR Scanning & BIM Specialist

What to Expect

Tesla is seeking a highly skilled LiDAR Scanning & BIM Specialist to lead our reality capture, point‑cloud processing, and as‑built modeling functions. This role will bridge advanced surveying technologies and digital delivery to capture accurate 3D field data using LiDAR cameras to produce detailed Building Information Models (BIM) ready for design and construction workflows. The ideal candidate will be comfortable operating both in the field and office environments and will deliver high‑quality, coordinated models with precise documentation.

• Operate mobile, terrestrial, and aerial LiDAR scanning equipment to capture existing site and building geometry and conditions
• Plan scans, and scan station setups and conduct field surveys with high accuracy using GNSS and control points. Calibrate and maintain scanning equipment; troubleshoot issues onsite
• Register, clean, align, and classify point clouds (e.g., noise removal). Ensure collected data meets Tesla's specifications and tolerances and apply rigorous QA/QC processes to deliverables
• Convert LiDAR point cloud data into detailed accurate Revit models, matching required Levels of Development (LOD 200-400)
• Develop as‑built and existing condition models for architectural, site, structural, and MEP/S systems
• Extract plans, elevations, sections, and annotated deliverables from 3D data to as‑built drawings. Produce clear documentation and reports based on reality capture and BIM outputs
• Work collaboratively with project teams to improve project workflows, troubleshoot scans and models, and maintain project accuracy. Communicate progress, risks, and data interpretation with internal and external stakeholders

• 3-5 years of reality capture and BIM modeling experience with infrastructure, warehouse, office, and utility projects ranging from 10,000 SF up to 100,000 SF+
• Experience with mobile, terrestrial, and aerial reality capture cameras. Experience with XGrid cameras is a strong plus
• Experience with post‑processing software, point cloud stitching, and working with control points to achieve highly accurate point clouds and models
• Experience working with and managing point cloud and BIM workflows using Autodesk Revit, and Autodesk Construction Cloud
• Strong project management skills with the ability to work on multiple sites, deliverables, and deadlines
• Candidates should have excellent analytical and problem‑solving abilities, a high attention to detail and clear communication skills with ability to work collaboratively on a team
• Flexibility to travel between sites and the office
