Overview
GAI Consultants, Inc. is seeking a Senior Environmental Project Manager to lead permitting and regulatory compliance for inter- and intra-state energy infrastructure projects.
Responsibilities- Lead complex environmental permitting strategy for power/energy projects across the full lifecycle.
- Serve as the primary client contact and agency liaison, facilitating stakeholder meetings and negotiating permitting pathways with federal, state, and local agencies.
- Manage multidisciplinary project teams, budgets, schedules, and risk, ensuring timely and cost-effective delivery.
- Drive business development: identify opportunities, lead proposal strategy, and support account growth.
- Provide senior-level review of technical studies, environmental documentation, and regulatory filings.
- Recruit, mentor, and train junior staff in project management and regulatory compliance.
- Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science, Planning, Engineering, or a closely related discipline.
- Minimum 12 years of leading environmental licensing and permitting for intrastate energy infrastructure projects.
- Expertise in Section 7(b)/7(c) filings, NEPA/CEQA documentation, and agency engagement.
- Strong project management skills; proven track record of delivering complex projects on time and on budget.
- Proven business development, forecasting, and client relationship management experience.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills; experience presenting at public hearings.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office and ability to travel up to 25%; valid driver’s license.
- Master’s degree in a related discipline.
- Experience with energy transition projects (hydrogen, CCUS, CO₂ transport, renewables) and related regulatory frameworks.
- Familiarity with EPC delivery environments and third-party NEPA contracting.
- Strong relationships with FERC, USACE, USFWS, and state agencies.
- Texas location preferred; candidates with extensive Texas, Arizona, or California experience encouraged.
The salary range for this position is $130,000 to $170,000 per year, commensurate with qualifications.
