Civil Project Engineer – Austin, TX (Hybrid or Remote)

Job Summary
:
The candidate’s primary role will be a Civil Project Engineer, working independently and as part of a team collaborating with project clients and consultants. The role requires engineering proficiency, technical skills, and some project management for varying civil engineering project types and sizes. The candidate will demonstrate high professionalism, client focus, flexibility, and strong computer, presentation, written and verbal skills, as well as the ability to work with multiple teams.

Responsibilities
  • Lead planning, design, and execution of civil engineering projects, including data collection, feasibility, zoning compliance, grading, stormwater management, utilities, roads, parking, lighting, erosion & sediment control, etc.
  • Manage project timelines, budgets, and deliverables from concept through construction.
  • Coordinate with surveyors, architects, planners, jurisdictions, and environmental consultants/agencies.
  • Prepare construction documents (CDs, plans/details) in AutoCAD and technical specifications.
  • Assist clients with development permits and project compliance.
  • Communicate design recommendations to clients, project team members, and bidders/contractors via presentations, meetings, email, and phone.
  • Serve as primary point of contact for clients, consultants, and regulatory or permitting agencies.
  • Prepare, review, and coordinate construction documents, technical reports, and permit applications.
  • Work independently on projects or lead a project team to design and detail civil engineering needs with high accuracy and coordination.
  • Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal regulations and engineering standards.
  • Participate in onsite observations, information gathering, and interaction with clients and contractors during design and construction phases.
  • Represent the firm in meetings and hearings with clients, municipalities, and public agencies.
  • Support business development through proposal writing and client presentations.
  • Stay abreast of new design technologies, software, and construction standards through continuing education and research.
  • Perform civil design calculations, analysis, and assessments following office documentation standards.
Qualifications And Experience

Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor of Science in Civil/Environmental Engineering or related field.
  • Passed or plan to take the Fundamentals of Engineering exam.
  • Four to seven years of civil engineering work experience.
  • Familiarity with civil analysis and design software (Hydro

    CAD, Sewer

    CAD, Water

    CAD, HEC‑RAS, HEC‑HMS, Open Flows, Info Drainage, Civil 3D, ArcGIS, etc.).
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD or Civil3D.
  • Licensed professional engineer preferred but not required.
  • Hybrid full‑time position (3 days in office/2 days remote) – other arrangements considered based on qualifications.
Preferred
  • Site planning and land‑use development
  • Grading, utility, and drainage plans
  • Stormwater management modeling, analysis, design, and reports
  • Stormwater pollution prevention plans and erosion & sediment control plans
  • Pressure and gravity distribution systems (stormwater, water, and wastewater)
  • Pump stations and pump curves
  • Roadway and parking design
  • Development permits and zoning compliance
  • Field measurements, surveyor coordination, and data collection
  • Familiarity with geotechnical reports, subsurface testing, soil assessments and logs, infiltration testing, and soil mechanics
  • Familiarity with legal documentation for properties (easements, deeds, R.O.W.s, etc.)
  • Public speaking/hearings/presentations/Client representation

Travel

Project‑Related Travel: up to 15% nationally

Compensation & Benefits

Base Salary: $100,000 – $130,000 USD per year (determined by skills, experience, qualifications, and location).

Bonus eligibility: performance‑based bonuses.
