Test and Measurement Systems (also known as NI) Product R&D has an immediate opening for a Principal Signal Integrity Hardware Engineer within our talented hardware design team in Austin, TX. In this role, you will have the opportunity to work throughout the product lifecycle to develop products and systems that expand the test and measurement industry's capabilities.
Responsibilities- Collaborate with multidisciplinary hardware engineering teams to develop test and measurement products.
- Own all aspects of digital board level design, including schematic entry, PCB stack‑up, layout guidelines, signal integrity simulations, and prototype validation.
- Develop and execute plans for prototype hardware bring‑up and board level validation.
- Be the voice of digital design in project meetings by estimating level of effort for design tasks, providing input on status of work, and proactively raising technical concerns.

Requirements- Must be a U.S. citizen or green card holder.
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical, Computer, or Software Engineering, or a related discipline.
- 8+ years relevant engineering experience in digital hardware design, including:
- Strong high‑speed design fundamentals (signal integrity, crosstalk, impedance control, EMI, PCB stack‑up).
- Experience with clocking architectures, including clock tree design, PLL configuration, and jitter analysis and mitigation techniques for high‑speed digital systems.
- Experience designing and validating high‑speed interfaces (DDR, PCIe, JESD
204, Ethernet).
- Proficient in using laboratory tools such as oscilloscopes, TDRs, VNAs, logic analyzers, etc.
- Hands‑on experience with EDA tools for schematic capture and PCB layout, including writing and executing test plans to verify board‑level digital circuits and bringing up prototype hardware.
- Exceptional problem‑solving skills with the ability to analyze complex technical challenges.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to articulate technical ideas to diverse stakeholders.
- Located within a commutable distance to NI's offices in Austin, TX, or willing to relocate.
- Familiarity with FPGA or ASIC integration into digital designs.
- Experience in mixed‑signal designs and power management for digital systems.
- Proficiency in scripting or programming languages (e.g., LabVIEW, Python) for hardware testing and automation.
- Understanding of PCB thermal and mechanical design considerations.
- Familiar with Xilinx, Intel or Lattice FPGAs and CPLDs, and associated tool chains.
- Experience using VHDL and/or System Verilog to implement synthesizable logic targeting FPGAs.
- Experience writing test benches and simulation models to verify logic designs.
- Familiar with common clock domain crossing techniques and timing closure.
- Knowledge of static timing analysis and FPGA timing constraints.
- Experience collaborating with cross‑disciplinary engineering teams.
