The Power Systems Controls Engineer supports the design, configuration, and deployment of Power Plant Controller (PPC) solutions for utility-scale Solar PV and Battery Energy Storage projects across North America. The role emphasizes grid integration, plant control strategy implementation, commissioning performance, and energy market compliance.
This position operates at the power-plant system level, bridging PPC controls, grid behavior, and commissioning performance to ensure plants meet interconnection and operational requirements.
CORE RESPONSIBILITIES- Support development, configuration, and tuning of PPC control strategies including AVR, PFR, FFR, Volt/VAR, ramp rate, and active power control
- Participate in interconnection, commissioning, and qualification activities across major U.S. ISOs/RTOs (CAISO, ERCOT, MISO, PJM, ISO-NE)
- Interface with utilities, ISOs, OEMs, and EPCs to validate plant control performance during commissioning and grid integration
- Support dynamic performance validation and grid compliance efforts
- Translate interconnection requirements, grid codes, and performance standards into executable engineering deliverables and test procedures
- Contribute to standardized PPC deployment approaches and reusable engineering documentation
- 3–7+ years of experience in power systems engineering, plant controls, or renewable generation
- Experience supporting utility-scale PV and/or BESS projects
- Familiarity with plant control concepts including AVR, PFR, FFR, Volt/VAR, and dispatch coordination
- Working knowledge of U.S. energy markets and ISO participation requirements
- Exposure to dynamic modeling tools (PSS®E, PSCAD, or similar)
- Understanding of applicable standards including IEEE 2800, IEEE 1547, and NERC reliability frameworks
- Commissioning experience on utility-scale PV or BESS plants
- Experience implementing plant control strategies within ISO markets
- Background with inverter OEMs, EMS/PPC vendors, EPCs, or interconnection consulting environments
- Familiarity with SEL RTAC or plant automation platforms
