PrimaryResponsibilities
HDR Engineering is looking for a Bridge EIT/Inspector to join our National Infrastructure Inspection Team. The Bridge EIT/Inspector will perform local and national bridge inspections and occasional office engineering (design, CADD, analysis). They will assist the lead inspector in performing inspections and preparing reports in accordance with NBIS (National Bridge Inspection Standards).
- Participate in local and national bridge inspections, develop inspection reports, and perform structural load rating calculations
- Work in a team environment and independently while acquiring engineering knowledge and experience
- Support the bridge design group and other disciplines by applying structural engineering and detailing techniques in the development of structural designs
- Perform other duties as needed
- Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering
- Master’s degree in Civil/Structural Engineering
- Engineer in Training (EIT) certificate or ability to obtain promptly
- 0‑2 years’ bridge/structural inspection and design experience
- Completion of NHI 130055 Safety Inspection of In‑Service Bridges training
- Willingness to work with other disciplines during inspection downtime
- Valid driver’s license and ability to travel for multiple night stays during the week
- Physical ability to perform field inspections of in‑service bridge, culvert, tunnel, highway, overhead sign, hydraulic, and traffic signal pole structures
- Physical demands include ladder use, small boat maneuvering, long‑distance driving, confined space work, air travel, night work, and walking long uneven distances
- Independent and team‑oriented work style with strong communication skills
- Experience with environmental hazards such as temperature extremes, water, work at height, poisonous plants, snakes, ticks, spiders, and other creatures
- Without an EIT, the candidate will be placed into a Design Coordinator job code and expected to obtain the EIT for career progression
- Familiarity with engineering software packages such as LEAP Bridge Enterprise, FB‑Multi Pier, LPile, AASHTOWare BrR, midas Civil, MDX, SAP
2000, CSiBridge, ADINA, RM Bridge, sp Column, LUSAS, STLBridge
LRFD, or STLBridge - Experience in bridge/structural design
- Bachelor’s degree
- Proficiency in MS Office, MathCAD, AutoCAD, LARSA, and Prestress Concrete Design
- Familiarity with Bluebeam Revu and the above engineering software packages
- Experience with Bently Open Bridge Modeler and/or Autodesk Infraworks and Civil 3D
- Strong understanding and hands‑on use of computers for structural layout and design
- Good communication skills and willingness to work in a team environment
- Commitment to being an active participant in an employee‑owned culture
