As a Pilot Engineering Technician, you will be supporting design, sourcing, installation and commissioning of Low Volume production equipment with deliverables tied to the High Volume lines. The role will transition to high volume installations and commissioning as the Tesla products mature through build phases. Responsibilities include but are not limited to identifying and mitigating risk during design phases, facilitating timelines and stop gaps during installation phases and communicating with Design, Manufacturing and Process Engineering teams as well as other cross functional teams during initial assemblies and through low volume production to support equipment and product iterations for a successful High volume launch.
What You'll Do
* Subject matter expert of equipment used in their area, supporting improvements and escalations related to yield, quality, downtime, and safety
* Work with equipment vendors to establish Tesla standards and requirements for manufacturing technologies
* Drive T/M accountability in best-safety practices;
Process Ergo, Mech. assist checks, take action to address unsafe operating conditions. Ability to follow through on assignments in diverse and or remote locations with high direction or self reliance
* PLC programming and troubleshooting using several different programming styles, including ladder logic and structured text
* Participate in initial equipment conceptual development and carefully balance product specifications, process requirements, layout complexity, cost, and lead-time limits
* Manage electrical cabinet builds, field wiring, pneumatic and fluid plumbing
* Support all aspects of Pilot line operations, including: (1) Product assembly and in-process quality control (e.g., measurements, documentation). (2) Troubleshooting and optimizing production equipment/processes to maintain high-quality standards. (3) Timely failure analysis and root cause identification to resolve assembly defects and ensure defect-free production
* Collaborate with engineers and cross-functional teams to ensure timely task completion
What You'll Bring
* 3+ years of hands-on mechanical and electrical experience.
* Experience with Solid Works or other 3D CAD software
* Understanding of automation systems, mechanical engineering, robotics, PLCs, data collection systems
* Experience with drilling, tapping, and utilizing basic shop tools
* Able to maintain organization and focus in a highly dynamic environment
* Excellent communicator, both in presentations and written reports
* Ability to work self-sufficiently and utlize strong prioritization skills
* Highly motivated, willing to learn on the job
* Strong understanding of engineering fundamentals and troubleshooting skills
* Experience working in a fast paced and dynamic environment and able to manage multiple priorities
