We are seeking a highly motivated Highway Engineer with a strong technical background to join our growing team in Austin, Texas. Candidates must have excellent technical writing and verbal communication skills and be highly responsive to clients. A candidate’s experience in, or a strong desire to develop oversight, mentorship, and staff management support skills is a bonus.
ResponsibilitiesThe Highway Engineer will work on a variety of transportation‑related projects within Texas, with the potential to work on projects nationally. The Engineer will participate in the development of roadway alignments, pedestrian and bicycle facilities, roadside evaluation and design, maintenance of traffic design, preparation of construction plans, specifications, cost estimates, and the development of technical reports. Project assignments can range from small‑scale intersection improvements to complex interchange and corridor projects.
The Project Engineer is responsible for supporting Senior Project Engineers in a variety of tasks as well as managing projects.
- 4–9 years of experience in the design of transportation projects
- Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering
- Professional Engineer license, preferably in Texas
- Strong knowledge of AASHTO guidelines; knowledge of TXDOT specifications, policies, and procedures preferred
- Experience designing roadway projects and preparing contract documents in accordance with TXDOT policies and procedures preferred
- Ability to effectively communicate orally/written at all levels of the organization.
- Ability to handle multiple assignments.
- Experience with design software tools such as Micro Station, InRoads, and Open Roads preferred.
- Knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook)
