What to Expect
The Process Piping Designer supports multi-disciplinary engineering teams by developing, coordinating, and issuing piping and process design deliverables for capital projects in industrial, refining, chemical, and/or midstream environments. This role transforms engineering concepts into accurate, constructible 2D drawings and 3D models, ensuring compliance with applicable codes, project standards, safety requirements, and operational needs. The designer collaborates closely with process engineers, mechanical engineers, project managers, and construction personnel to deliver high-quality design packages through all project phases.
WhatYou'll Do
- Develop layouts and conduct reviews to consider constructability, operability and maintainability of the facility
- Design pipe routing considering stress, supports, thermal expansion, and tie-in constraints
- Interface with and participate in teams with manufacturing personnel, maintenance personnel, other engineering design disciplines, vendors, contractors, and suppliers as needed
- Review and provide feedback to vendor GA's / cut sheets including, but not limited to, tank GA's, pump GA's, & control valve cut sheets
- Interpret vendor drawings and integrate equipment into the 3D model
- Perform field verification, field measurements, field engineering, construction support
- Engineering/Design codes & standards
- Bachelors Degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent experience
- Proficient in Plant 3D, Revit Modeling Software, Autodesk ReCap for point cloud modeling
- Experienced with Navisworks, Bluebeam, Laser Scans
- Ability to generate smart P&IDs, Plot Plans, Equipment Location Plans, Piping Plans, Isometrics, Material Take Offs and experience with checking design packages as needed
- Minimum of 15 years relevant experience, 5 years as a Senior Piping Designer
- Ability to travel to field project locations with lead designers or engineers to make field sketches, take dimensions and create as-built drawings
- Strong understanding of industry codes such as ASME B31.3, API standards, and project-specific design practices
- Extensive layout experience
