We are seeking to grow our Distribution Design Engineering Team and would like to hire candidates who can complete design tasks with minimal oversight, learn quickly, provide training to other staff, and maintain EPE’s reputation for delivering high‑quality solutions to clients.
Responsibilities- Create distribution design sketches and supporting documents per the Client’s distribution design guidelines and standards.
- Specify distribution construction standards.
- Review, approve, and stamp distribution designs and drawings.
- Mentor and train new distribution designers.
- Specify necessary materials per Client distribution construction standards.
- Perform and provide cost estimates to customers.
- Support distribution designers with customer‑related issues and expectations.
- Prepare new drawings using AutoCAD and/or Autodesk Utility Design methods.
- Perform all necessary steps to produce and release design drawings to the Client, including field inspections, staking pole locations, creating unique tracking numbers, and coordinating with the Client’s internal stakeholders (Construction, Civil Inspection, Forestry, Public Works).
- Maintain knowledge of current procedural/process documents and update them as needed.
- Maintain accurate documentation of project correspondence, schedules, and timelines.
- Provide professional and timely communication with the Client, other contractors, and utility customers as well as other project stakeholders.
- Perform and/or check engineering calculations to determine and confirm design feasibility.
- Create distribution construction notes and specify required materials.
- Follow Client‑approved safety procedures both in the office and in the field, and wear appropriate PPE.
- Perform other distribution engineering and design services as required, including permitting or project coordination.
- Degree in Engineering from an ABET accredited university/college (preferably Electrical Engineering; Mechanical Engineering is also acceptable).
- Experience with electrical power calculations.
- Familiarity with the NESC and NEC.
- Experience with Utility Work Management Systems (WMIS, Dynamo, SAP).
- Experience with Utility Design and Construction Standards.
- CAD experience (AutoCAD, Micro Station, or similar).
- Must have experience using ESRI ArcGIS or AutoCAD for utility design.
- Consulting experience preferred.
- Ability to travel to client sites.
