Electrical Engineer – Robotics Systems
Location: Austin, TX (Onsite)
Compensation: $120K–$150K base + equity
Base pay range: $/yr - $/yr
OpportunitiesI’m recruiting for a confidential, Austin‑based robotics startup building rugged robotic systems designed for real‑world deployment. The company is early‑stage, well‑funded, and moving from multiple prototype generations into a production‑ready platform.
This is a foundational electrical engineering role with real ownership. You’ll have the opportunity to influence core system architecture while working on hardware that is designed, built, tested, and deployed by a small, highly technical team.
What You’d Be Working OnThis role covers the full electrical stack of a robotic system and is best suited for someone who enjoys hands‑on work paired with thoughtful design.
Key responsibilities include:- Designing analog and digital circuits for power regulation, signal conditioning, and sensor interfaces
- Owning PCB development end‑to‑end: schematic capture, layout, bring‑up, and iteration
- Designing power distribution, system buses, grounding, and EMI/EMC strategies
- Supporting embedded systems integration and hardware/firmware debugging
- Creating and maintaining wiring diagrams and cable harnesses
- Selecting and integrating sensors (visual, thermal, environmental, RF, etc.)
- Troubleshooting electrical issues in the lab and during field testing
- Supporting thermal, vibration, and EMI testing and interpreting results
- Running SPICE simulations for validation and noise analysis
- Participating in design reviews and contributing to documentation and standards
- Collaborating closely with mechanical and software teams
- BS in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or equivalent experience
- 2+ years of experience designing and testing circuit boards for embedded or electromechanical systems
- Proficiency with schematic and PCB layout tools (Altium, KiCad, Eagle, or similar)
- Strong fundamentals in analog and digital circuit design
- Experience with microcontrollers and communication protocols (UART, SPI, I2C, CAN)
- Comfortable with lab tools (oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, multimeters)
- Hands‑on experience with SMD/SMT soldering and rework
- Experience building and troubleshooting wiring harnesses
- Experience with field‑deployed or production hardware
- Familiarity with thermal and EMI/EMC considerations
- Exposure to embedded C/C++ or close collaboration with firmware teams
- Startup or fast‑moving hardware team experience
- Onsite role in Austin with a collaborative, lab‑centered workflow
- Emphasis on ownership, quality, and thoughtful engineering
- Fast iteration cycles without unnecessary bureaucracy
- Team values clear communication, autonomy, and sustainable pace
- High‑impact ownership over core electrical systems
- Opportunity to shape architecture and standards early
- Real hardware being deployed outside the lab
- Competitive compensation and meaningful equity
- Strong growth path as the team scales
