Duties and ResponsibilitiesThe Lead Cost Estimator will develop detailed cost estimates for a variety of projects—including highway, bridge, tunnel, airport, building construction, and renovation projects—at all stages of design. Responsibilities include preliminary conceptual estimates, design‑stage estimates, change‑order estimates, claim estimates, and “what‑if” scenario analyses. The estimator will review and comment on estimates prepared by others, author technical reports, and coordinate with construction schedulers to ensure estiamting and scheduling integration.
Interaction with project owners, designers, engineers, material and equipment suppliers, and contractors is a core element, as is participation in project meetings, negotiations, risk analyses, and value‑engineering studies.
- At least 10 years of aviation cost estimating experience on vertical or civil projects
- Experience with terminal construction, baggage handling systems, apron rehabilitation, taxiway improvements, and airfield electrical and utility infrastructure
- Proficiency with laptop and desktop computers; exceptional Microsoft Excel skills
- Strong preference for experience with HCSS Heavy Bid Software, digitizer or on‑screen takeoff software, and CPM scheduling
- Thorough understanding of the construction process, ability to read plans and specifications, and capability to determine crews, equipment, and production rates
- Positive attitude, calm demeanor, friendly personality, and teamwork skills
- Fluent in English with excellent writing and oral communication
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering, architecture, construction management, or a related field
Physical Requirements
- Normal daytime hours, but may vary with project demands
- Overtime may be required to meet project deadlines
- Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer
- Position will be onsite at Austin‑Bergstrom International Airport
Employees assigned to driving duties must maintain a current, valid driver’s license and a satisfactory driving record per company policy. OSHA 10 certification is required.
