OpportunityThis position focuses on the design of structures that support water purification and treatment facilities, making water supplies more resilient and sustainable. The engineer will design a variety of structural systems, broaden their design experience, and collaborate with other disciplines while delivering critical water infrastructure projects to the community. Black & Veatch’s broad portfolio of projects also provides opportunities in markets such as power generation, industry, data centers, and power delivery.
Key Responsibilities- Execute complex structural analysis, perform calculations, and prepare sketches and drawings for water and wastewater treatment plants, industrial facilities, and other complex structural facilities.
- Supervise Structural Engineers (both in the US and overseas) and work with Structural Technicians in the preparation of structural drawings and specifications. Lead larger production teams and serve as the responsible charge for projects.
- Perform construction phase engineering duties such as site visits, responding to RFIs, and review of contractor submittals.
- Perform project administrative tasks, including design fee estimates, monitoring progress against budget and schedule, managing project changes, and implementing Black & Veatch Quality Control requirements.
- Coordinate work with architects and other discipline engineers.
- Lead a team to execute complex projects with construction values of up to $100M.
- Provide guidance on department design guides, standards, systems, applicable engineering codes, and B&V policies. Assist in developing, maintaining, and updating engineering standards. Provide technical guidance and support continuous improvement efforts.
- Implement resource management strategy, including managing resources for a small group.
- Master of Engineering or Master of Science from an ABET accredited Structural Engineering program.
- Familiarity with the latest editions of the International Building Code, ASCE 7, ACI 318, AISC Steel Construction Manual, and ACI 530.
- Proficiency with structural analysis software such as RISA 3D, STAADPro, or SAP 2000.
- Proficiency with non‑structural software packages such as Bluebeam, Project Wise, AutoCAD, and Revit.
- A bachelor’s degree in engineering from an accredited program or equivalent experience in engineering work.
- Minimum of 5 years related work experience.
- Active engineering registration or licensure to support Engineer of Record (EOR) requirements for BV projects in applicable countries.
