The RoleWe’re seeking a Staff Systems Engineer – Software to take technical ownership of integrated software systems across robotics platforms. You’ll be embedded in cross-functional engineering teams, collaborating on everything from architecture to deployment, debugging, diagnostics, and design for resilience. This is a senior, hands-on role with broad impact on future robots.
What You’ll Do- Lead the design, development, and maintenance of scalable, reliable software platforms that support robotics deployment
- Drive cross-disciplinary efforts: define software requirements, system architectures, scheduling, and test plans
- Own root cause analysis across hardware, software, and control boundaries
- Create APIs, frameworks, and services for prototypes, research, and production use cases
- Implement fault detection, diagnostic, and recovery schemes to maximize uptime and robustness
- Support validation and testing by delivering modular control software for subsystem experiments
- Deep experience in modern C++ (OOP, multithreading) and Linux-based development
- Background in containerization and orchestration (Docker, Kubernetes)
- Familiarity with robotics frameworks (e.g. ROS, URDF) and control-stack integration
- Experience with communication networking (Ether
CAT, CAN) - Strong understanding of distributed systems, microservices, and API design
- 8+ years of software engineering work, especially in latency-sensitive, real-time systems
- Bachelor’s degree in CS, Engineering, or related field (Master’s preferred)
- Hands-on experience with hardware abstraction layers, sensor and actuator control stacks
- Proven experience in robotics system debugging and production issue remediation
