Position: GIS Analyst IV: District Maintenance (Austin District)

Overview

GIS Analyst IV supports the District Maintenance Office in the Austin District of TxDOT. The position performs advanced GIS data development, integration, and analysis, produces maps and graphics, and extracts, analyzes, and reports data. Technical assistance and support are provided for transportation‑related activities or projects. Employees at this level may serve as a Lead Worker or Project Leader, establishing their own work plans and priorities to meet set objectives, with minimal supervisory involvement.

Salary

Minimum Salary: $65,104.00

Maximum Salary: $

Work Location: Austin District Headquarters (7901 NORTH IH 35, Austin, 78753)

Travel: Yes, 5% of the time

Shift: Day Shift – 40 Hours, Monday–Friday;

Responsibilities
  • Oversees or manages the creation and production of cartographic map products, web mapping applications, and ArcGIS Online maps and services.
  • Reviews or oversees the creation of maps, graphs, or diagrams.
  • Collects, prepares, digitizes and codes spatial data into GIS format.
  • Conducts mapping research to ensure accurate use of data and resolve conflicting information.
  • Creates, maintains and updates GIS databases and cartographic products using the ESRI suite of ArcGIS software.
  • Digitizes and maintains roadway line work and attributes, basemap layers, and administrative polygon boundaries.
  • Utilizes ArcGIS Online to create and maintain feature services and web mapping applications.
  • Reviews geographic data from various sources, including other state agencies, aerial imagery, existing maps, and databases.
  • Generates reports and produces graphic products.
  • Performs other job responsibilities as assigned. This position requires driving a state vehicle.
Experience

4 years of cartography, mapping, surveying, or related experience using Environmental Systems Research Institute (ESRI) products in cartographic production, GIS or GPS analysis. (Experience can be satisfied by full‑time or prorated part‑time equivalent). Related graduate‑level education may be substituted for experience on a year‑per‑year basis.

Licenses and Certifications

Valid driver’s license. This position requires driving a state vehicle.

Physical Requirements and Working Conditions

Sedentary work: lift up to 10 lbs at a time and occasionally carry files/small tools; standing—prolonged periods of time; repetitive motion—substantial movements of the wrists, hands, and fingers. To be selected for and continue employment in this position, the incumbent must maintain the security or integrity of the agency’s critical infrastructure and will be subject to regular assessments of criminal history and reviewed for connections to foreign adversaries.
