To manage and conserve the natural and cultural resources of Texas and to provide hunting, fishing and outdoor recreation opportunities for the use and enjoyment of present and future generations.

General DescriptionUnder the direction of the Outdoor Education and Outreach Manager, this internship is an opportunity designed for students to obtain relevant work experience to be competitive for future positions in informal education, interpretation, outdoor recreation, and community engagement. Duties may include assisting with community engagement and outreach initiatives, preparing, conducting inventory, and organizing outreach materials for programming events, data analysis of state park visitation, overnight camping workshops, and outdoor education programming.
The intern will engage the public in outdoor heritage recreation at community events and perform additional outreach duties as assigned, ensuring compliance with all State and Federal laws, regulations, and agency policies.
Job Duties
- 40%:
Support the State Parks Community Engagement Coordinator by assisting with cultural engagement planning and attending collaborative working group sessions. - 20%:
Support the Texas Outdoor Family program by attending and assisting with introductory camping workshops and related preparation and inventory tasks. - 20%:
Support the Buffalo Soldier Heritage and Outreach Program by assisting with historical outreach programming, social media, and artifact management tasks. - 15%:
General support of the Outdoor Education and Outreach team and the Interpretive Services program by attending programs at State Parks and assisting with various interpretation tasks. - 5%:
Perform additional duties as assigned, complying with agency rules, regulations, and procedures.
- Education: Current enrollment as an undergraduate or graduate student at an accredited college or university, or recent graduate with a bachelor’s degree or higher within the last 6 months. Minimum of 18 completed semester credit hours and an overall GPA of 2.5 or higher on a 4.0 scale (or "Pass" on a Pass/Fail system).
- Experience: None required.
- Licensure: Must possess a valid state driver’s license.
- Knowledge of Texas State Parks.
- Effective verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to establish and maintain working relationships with peers and leaders while working on projects or assignments.
- Ability to manage several projects simultaneously.
- Skill in using technology and data analysis tools relevant to program support.
