GENERAL DESCRIPTION

Under the direction of the Outdoor Education and Outreach Manager, this internship is an opportunity designed for students to obtain relevant work experience to be competitive for future positions in informal education, interpretation, outdoor recreation, and community engagement. Duties may include assisting with community engagement and outreach initiatives, preparing, conducting inventory, and organizing outreach materials for programming events, data analysis of state park visitation, overnight camping workshops and outdoor education programming in Texas State Parks, engaging the general public in outdoor heritage recreation at community events, and additional outreach duties as assigned.

Ensures compliance with State and Federal laws and regulations, and agency policies and procedures. Performs additional duties as assigned. Complies with all Agency, Division, and Branch rules, regulations, and procedures.

ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES

40% Support the State Parks Community Engagement Coordinator by assisting with cultural engagement planning and attending collaborative working group sessions.

20% Support the Texas Outdoor Family program by attending and assisting with introductory camping workshops and related prep and inventory tasks.

20% Support the Buffalo Soldier Heritage and Outreach Program by assisting with historical outreach programming, social media, and artifact management tasks.

15% General support of the Outdoor Education and Outreach team and the Interpretive Services program by attending programs at State Parks and assisting with various interpretation.

Job Duties:

Performs additional duties as assigned. Complies with Agency, Division and Department rules, regulations, and procedures.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS Education

Current enrollment as an undergraduate or graduate student in an accredited college or university or recent graduate with a bachelor’s degree or higher within the last 6 months.

Minimum of 18 completed semester credit hours from an accredited college or university at time of application.

Must have an overall grade point average (GPA) of 2.5 or higher on a 4.0 grade point scale or "Pass" on a Pass/Fail system.

Experience

None required.

Licensure

Must possess a valid state driver’s license.
