Job Title: Dyslexia Specialist / Reading Interventionist
Wage/Hour Status: Exempt
Reports to: Principal
Pay Grade: According to DSISD Compensation Plan and verified years of TEA creditable service

PRIMARY PURPOSE

Serve as an intervention specialist for struggling readers, including students with dyslexia. Provide targeted reading intervention and assist teachers with instructional methodologies to improve student literacy outcomes.

QUALIFICATIONS

Education/Certification:
  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited university
  • Valid Texas teaching certificate with required endorsements or training for subject and grade level assigned
  • One or more of the following preferred:
    • Reading Specialist certification
    • Master's degree in Reading or related field
    • Master Reading Teacher (MRT) certification
  • CALP/CALT certification or equivalent training preferred
Special Knowledge/Skills:
  • Demonstrated competency in assigned academic content area
  • Knowledge of curriculum and instructional strategies
  • Ability to instruct students and manage behavior effectively
  • Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills
Experience:
  • Minimum of three years of successful teaching experience in grades PreK-5
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES

Instructional Strategies
  • Develop and implement lesson plans aligned to district curriculum and maintain required documentation.
  • Differentiate instruction to address varied learning styles and needs.
  • Deliver instruction in accordance with Texas Education Agency guidelines, board policies, and administrative regulations.
  • Use appropriate instructional strategies, materials, and technology to support student learning.
  • Assess student learning styles and academic progress to guide instruction.
  • Collaborate with special education staff to modify instruction in accordance with Individualized Education Programs (IEPs).
  • Work with campus staff to establish instructional goals and objectives aligned to district expectations.
  • Student Growth and Development
  • Support students in improving study skills and learning habits.
  • Conduct ongoing assessment of student achievement using formal and informal measures.
  • Serve as a positive role model and support the mission of the district.
  • Classroom Management and Organization
  • Create a classroom environment conducive to learning and appropriate for students' developmental levels.
  • Manage student behavior in accordance with the Student Code of Conduct and campus expectations.
  • Take reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities.
  • Assist in the selection of instructional materials and resources.
  • Communication
  • Maintain open communication with parents, students, principals, and teachers.
  • Establish and maintain professional relationships with colleagues and community members.
  • Communicate information clearly and effectively.
  • Professional Growth and Development
  • Participate in professional development activities to enhance instructional effectiveness.
  • Comply with state, district, and campus policies and regulations.
  • Maintain required documentation and records.
  • Attend faculty meetings and serve on committees as assigned.
  • SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

    Supervise assigned teacher aide(s).

    MENTAL DEMANDS / PHYSICAL DEMANDS / ENVIRONMENTAL FACTORS

    Tools/Equipment Used: Standard classroom equipment including computer and peripherals, instructional technology, and media equipment.
    Posture: Frequent standing, stooping, bending, pulling, and pushing.
    Motion: Frequent walking and movement within classroom and campus environments.
    Lifting: Occasional lifting and moving of textbooks, classroom materials, and equipment.
    Environment: Work inside school building; may work prolonged or irregular hours as needed.
    Mental Demands: Maintain emotional control under stress; work with frequent interruptions.
