Purpose

Provide leadership and oversight of first-year student initiatives in the Office of Student Engagement (OSE) within the College of Liberal Arts to support student leadership, success, and retention. Develop, plan, and implement student development programming, and mentorship and research initiatives for first-year students in OSE, including Foundation Scholars. This position will report to the Director of Student Engagement and Strategic Initiatives in Liberal Arts Student Affairs.

Job Responsibilities

  • Student Community Development:
    Supervise and coordinate work of student leaders, including Foundation Scholars Program (FSP) student executive board and peer mentors; work with graduate assistant(s) and mentors to manage aspects including Public Relations, Mentor Support and Training, Community Building, Experiential Learning Opportunities, Career Readiness, Wellness, Research Initiatives, Leadership, and Educational Workshops. Collaborate with OSE areas for continual community development. Maintain ongoing relationship with successive student cohorts.

    Coordinate all aspects of mentor recruitment and retention, including recruitment campaigns, hiring, selection, and training. Collaborate closely with the Director to assess the program's effectiveness and overall impact on student success.
  • New Student Orientation:
    Advise incoming students and assist with course registration; address student and family concerns; participate in college and family meetings and other orientation related activities as assigned; participate in all FSP orientation activities.
  • Program Representation:
    Attend college events when called upon; assist with trainings, end-of-semester celebrations, and other events; participate in professional development and serve on committees.
  • Routine and Developmental Advising:
    Provide information on degree requirements, academic policies, institutional rules, regulations, and resources; barriers to academic achievement and student progress; advantages to graduating in four years; choosing a major/minor; identifying educational/career/life goals.
  • Student Records and Communication:
    Collect and compile cohort data for retention purposes. Maintain and organize essential administrative records. Support initiatives of the Student Support Coordinator(s), OSE Director and Staff, and the college and university. Coordinate promotional materials. Oversee FSP online and social media presence.
  • Supervise Student Support Coordinator(s), Graduate Assistant(s), and Intern(s).
  • Manage program operating budget and ensure proper financial records.
  • Other related functions as assigned.

Required Qualifications

Bachelor's Degree and 5 years of professional experience in student advising/support programming or Master's Degree and 3 years of professional experience in student advising/support programming.
