This SOR science position teaches students in chemistry and physics across 5 sections. Like other SOR faculty members, this position will also be expected to be a homeroom advisor.
In this role, teachers instruct, disciple, and mentor students in alignment with the Objectives outlined in Article II, helping them flourish spiritually, intellectually, and relationally.
Teachers partner closely with parents and colleagues to prepare students for life beyond Regents equipped to think critically, love deeply, and serve faithfully.

Teaching
- Create engaging lessons for sophomores in Physics I on topics including motion, thermodynamics, waves, electromagnetism, matter, and nuclear energy
- Create engaging lessons for juniors in Chemistry I on topics including gas laws, heating curves, atomic structure, bonds, reactions, and stoichiometry
- Lead students in discussions that impart key concepts clearly, require students to think, and spark curiosity for the natural world and awe for its Creator
- Foster students' growth in problem-solving and application of units
- Lead laboratory exercises training students in lab safety, accurate measurement, data analysis, and fundamental experimental design
- Have 1 hour of tutoring time per week outside of the school day
- Lead a group of 10-14 students of the same gender as a homeroom advisor -- read scripture, pray, discuss matters and skill development as they come up, etc.
- Provide emotional and spiritual support and discipleship as needed to the group of students in advisory
- Chaperone a class trip as well as one dance per year
- Attend grade-level meetings every other week during lunch
- Attend regular faculty meetings after school once a week
- Help with other duties around the school (lunch duty, etc.) as needed
Successful candidates will live out a Christian lifestyle and demonstrate a Christ-centered worldview in daily actions. Teachers will create a healthy, nurturing classroom environment where students can flourish spiritually, intellectually, and relationally.
Qualifications And Preferences- Bachelor's degree or higher in one of the two fields (or a closely-related field) with experience in teaching at the high school level
- Three to five years of relevant classroom experience preferred
- Christian maturity that demonstrates a desire and capacity to create a healthy classroom environment
- Strong understanding of pedagogical skills and objectives in a classical, Christian model
