Job PurposeThe Youth Development Coordinator (YDC) for Middle School (5th – 8th grade) is a dynamic, highly motivated professional responsible for fostering the academic, social, emotional, and physical development of youth participants through engaging programming and supportive supervision. The YDC works collaboratively with families, volunteers, and staff to deliver high‑quality bilingual (English‑Spanish) STEAM and academic programming while ensuring operational excellence and compliance with organizational standards and funding requirements.
Scope- Implement academic interventions that specifically target Middle School level math and reading proficiency
- Design/administer social emotional support curriculum targeting readiness for transitions into middle school and high school for 5th and 8th grade students
- Assist in the development of supplemental STEM programming aimed at career exposure and subject matter exploration
- Incorporate practices for educational programming in relation to logic models, key performance metrics, and organizational strategic plans
- Program Development and Delivery
- Lead and supervise youth groups in structured academic, recreational, and enrichment activities, ensuring engagement, inclusivity, and alignment with DEI principles.
- Plan, deliver, and adapt age‑appropriate in‑person and virtual lessons aligned with academic standards and organizational goals, integrating STEM, SEL, and health/wellness principles.
- Conduct student assessments and assist families in completing social determinants of health evaluations to identify and address additional family needs through closed‑loop referrals to other services.
- Implement assessments and interventions to measure academic preparedness related to literacy, critical thinking, and mathematics for assigned grade levels.
- Deliver supportive supplemental services that aid in the successful completion of middle school and entry into high school.
- Mentor and oversee volunteers, interns, and part‑time staff, ensuring their alignment with program goals and fostering a collaborative team culture.
- Act as a point of contact for resolving conflicts or addressing challenges involving students, parents, or staff.
- Evaluation
- Contribute to program evaluations, feedback sessions, and strategy meetings to enhance program effectiveness and innovation.
- Collect, analyze, and report program data to measure impact, support funding requirements, and inform continuous program improvements.
- Ensure data collection reflects youth blueprint and strategic plan KPIs.
- Deliver parent and participant surveys to measure program progress and success.
- Best Practices
- Incorporate youth voice by engaging participants in program design and decision‑making to promote empowerment and ownership.
- Actively model and promote positive behaviors, including teamwork, respect, resilience, and healthy habits.
- Provide training and guidance on best practices for working with youth, including DEI‑focused, trauma‑informed, and youth‑centric approaches.
- Utilize trauma‑informed and culturally responsive practices to support the diverse needs of participants.
- Collaborate with peers and leadership to develop innovative programming that reflects the evolving needs of youth participants and families.
- Maintain proper safeguarding guidelines throughout all programming.
- Participate in regular training and professional development opportunities to stay current on best practices in youth development, SEL, and educational programming.
