Nurse Educator
The Nursing Director of Clinical Education provides strategic leadership for the design, implementation, and evaluation of clinical education programs across an academic medical center. This role is led by an experienced nurse educator and supports nursing staff, Advanced Practice Providers (APPs), and allied health professionals through evidence-based education that advances clinical excellence, regulatory compliance, and patient outcomes.
Working in close partnership with nursing leadership, faculty, clinical operations, and administrative stakeholders, the Nursing Director of Clinical Education ensures that education initiatives reflect academic best practices, evolving clinical standards, and the mission of an academic health system. This role plays a critical part in workforce development, quality improvement, and organizational readiness in a complex, teaching-focused environment.
Key ResponsibilitiesNursing & Clinical Education Program Development
- Lead the development, implementation, and oversight of evidence-based clinical education programs, including onboarding, competency validation, and continuing professional development
- Align education initiatives with nursing standards of practice, academic medical center priorities, regulatory requirements, and national best practices
- Develop standardized curricula, workflows, and educational materials to support consistent, scalable education across clinical departments and service lines
Regulatory Compliance & Academic Standards
- Maintain current knowledge of regulatory, accreditation, and professional nursing standards impacting clinical education and competency validation
- Ensure education and competency documentation is accurate, complete, and audit-ready for internal and external reviews
- Support organizational readiness for regulatory surveys, accreditation reviews, and inspections related to nursing education and clinical competency
- Collaborate with nursing leadership, clinical faculty, providers, and operational leaders to assess and prioritize educational needs across the organization
- Partner with department leaders to integrate education initiatives into clinical and academic workflows, addressing emerging clinical and practice challenges
- Serve as a key liaison between nursing education, clinical operations, and executive leadership to ensure alignment with institutional strategy and academic mission
- Evaluate the effectiveness of clinical education programs using competency assessments, performance metrics, learner feedback, and outcomes data
- Use data-driven insights to refine educational strategies and enhance learning outcomes
- Track, analyze, and report education and competency metrics to nursing leadership and organizational stakeholders
Leadership & Team Management
- Provide leadership and oversight for the clinical education team, including nurse educators and education support staff
- Establish performance goals, provide coaching, and support the professional development of education team members
- Manage the clinical education budget and allocate resources effectively to support institutional priorities
- Master’s Degree in Nursing (MSN) required
- A Master’s degree in a related field (Healthcare Administration, Education, or similar) may be considered only if accompanied by a Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN)
- Minimum 5 years of experienc
e in clinical education or nursing professional development within a healthcare setting - Minimum 3 years of leadership or management experienc
e in nursing or clinical education - Current, unrestricted Texas Registered Nurse (RN) license
- Nursing Professional Development – Board Certification (NPD-BC)
- Experience in an academic medical center or teaching hospital environment
- Familiarity with graduate medical education, interdisciplinary education, or academic clinical training modes
