About Disability and AccessBased in the philosophy that all students should be assured equal access and opportunity, Disability and Access (D&A) works to eliminate physical, instructional and attitudinal barriers by providing reasonable accommodations and fostering awareness within the University community.
PurposeAccess Coordinators conduct intake and drop‑in appointments with current and prospective students and families to determine reasonable accommodations. They serve on D&A teams in processing of services and office development. Additionally, they prepare and deliver presentations and workshops to students, faculty, and other University personnel and/or divisions regarding disability and accessibility.
Responsibilities- Conduct intake and drop‑in appointments with current and prospective students and families and maintain a caseload of approximately 350 students. Determine reasonable accommodations and support faculty and staff in implementation of approved accommodations. Ensure accurate records are maintained in a confidential manner in keeping with the University’s document retention policy, privacy laws, FERPA and ADA requirements.
- Review disability‑related documentation, including psycho educational and neuropsychological reports to determine eligibility and appropriate academic accommodations under Sec. 504 of the Rehabilitation Act, the Americans with Disabilities (ADA) Act and the ADA Amendments Act (ADAAA).
- Meet with individual students for problem solving, and information dissemination using independent judgment in interpreting D&A, University, and ADA policies and procedures.
- Work with individual faculty members, staff, and appropriate agencies and or individuals outside of the University to evaluate and plan necessary academic accommodations for individual students.
- Work with other staff members and departments to support various accessibility‑related programs, initiatives, policies, and procedures including, but not limited to, those involving housing, note taking, deaf and hard of hearing (D/HH) services, outreach, funding/scholarships, auxiliary units, and career services.
- Prepare and deliver presentations and workshops for students, faculty, and other University personnel and/or divisions regarding disability and accessibility.
- Serve on assigned D&A teams in processing of services and office development. Work with other staff members on assessment goals and collecting, reviewing and interpreting departmental data.
- Function as a member of D&A, assist with general functions of the office and special projects as assigned.
- Bachelor’s degree in psychology, social science, behavioral science, or related field.
- A combination of three years of experience administering student programs or developing student programs.
- Experience reviewing psycho‑educational reports, working within the guidelines of the ADA, ADAAA and Section 504.
- Experience counseling students or advising college students with disabilities.
- Experience with crisis management and counseling.
- Excellent interpersonal skills. Professional demeanor. Excellent communication skills.
- Master’s degree in education, psychology, social science, behavioral science or related field.
- Experience in a higher education setting.
- Demonstrated effectiveness working with student populations.
- Working experience determining academic accommodations, providing therapeutic services and/or completing evaluations for individuals with learning, attentional, autism spectrum, and/or psychological disorders.
$61,000 + depending on qualifications
