Job Title: Dyslexia Specialist/Reading Interventionist

Wage/Hour Status: Exempt

Reports to: Principal

Pay Grade: According to DSISD Compensation Plan and verified years of TEA creditable service

PRIMARY

PURPOSE:

Serve as an intervention specialist for struggling readers, including students with dyslexia. Assist teachers with instructional methodologies.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Education/Certification:
  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited university
  • Valid Texas teaching certificate with required endorsements or training for the subject and level assigned. Preferred:

- Reading Specialist Teacher certification
- Master’s degree in Reading or related field
- Master Reading Teacher (MRT) certification

  • CALP/CALT certification or equivalent training preferred
Special Knowledge/

Skills:
  • Demonstrated competency in the core academic subject area assigned
  • Knowledge of curriculum and instruction
  • Ability to instruct students and manage their behavior
  • Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills
Experience:

Minimum of three years’ successful experience as a teacher in grades PreK-5.

MAJOR

RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:

Instructional Strategies
  • Develop and implement lesson plans that fulfill the district’s curriculum requirements and show written evidence of preparation.
  • Prepare lessons accommodating different learning styles.
  • Present subject matter according to TEA, board policies, and regulations.
  • Plan and use instructional strategies, activities, and materials that reflect student needs.
  • Assess student learning styles and use results to inform instruction.
  • Collaborate with special education teachers to modify curricula for IEP students.
  • Coordinate with staff on instructional goals and methods.
  • Student Growth and Development
  • Assist students in improving study habits.
  • Conduct ongoing assessments of achievement.
  • Model positive behavior and support the school district’s mission.
  • Classroom Management and Organization
  • Create a conducive learning environment.
  • Manage student behavior per policies.
  • Ensure safety and proper use of materials.
  • Assist in selecting instructional resources.
  • Communication
  • Maintain open communication with parents, students, and staff.
  • Build professional relationships with stakeholders.
  • Communicate effectively and clearly.
  • Professional Growth and Development
  • Engage in staff development activities.
  • Stay informed of regulations and policies.
  • Maintain required documentation and reports.
  • Participate in faculty meetings and committees.
  • SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:

    Supervise assigned teacher aide(s).

    WORKING CONDITIONS:

    Mental, Physical, and Environmental Factors:

    Maintain emotional control under stress. Frequent physical activities include standing, stooping, bending, and moving classroom equipment.
